Didn't even know he was still alive

Ron Ely's wife was murdered .Seems some confusion as to motive, etc.

Ron Ely along with Johnny Weissmuller were the definitive Tarzans for me.

Sorry if this shocks you, but Johnny Weissmuller is dead as well. Buck2

Definitely the top Tarzans.

I suppose it's a pretty sure thing that the next Tarzan film remake will have a woman as the lead character.

Many shows have already had Tarzan like female leads so it's only a matter of time.

Christopher Lambert in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes was pretty good as well I thought plus there was a great supporting cast - and he's still around by the way. Roll_eyes

As for Johnny Weissmuller he was a great swimmer, but actor?

He was perfect for the part of a not so clever Tarzan. A sort of early Schwarzenegger. Didn't you just love the trapeze / vines.

Whereas Ely perfectly played the part of a clever educated Tarzan.

Re: Didn't even know he was still alive

But in answer to your question probably not a good actor but then who is?

How many times have you watched something and thought they are just the same as in the last part they played. Or seeing them in real life and thinking they are just like the character they played in................

I think much of the real skill lies with the casting director. Perfect for the part or perfectly chosen?

Re: Didn't even know he was still alive

Whilst it is true many are typecast, many are not and some that are manage to shake it off - David Jason comes to mind.

How about the likes of Denzil Washington especially with his portrayal of real-life people such as Malcolm X, or even Ben Kingsley or Daniel Day-Lewis. All superb and believable in a variety of roles.

John Wayne of course was always, well John Wayne and always seemed about to say "Get off your horse and drink your milk".
