Pity he didn't take the advice of Fair Fuel UK and reduce the duty on fuel.

Think I'm worse off, but I never did understand why those over 65 should get a higher nil rate band.

It had a particularly rough ride from Ed Miliband. Smiley and 'Mr Speaker' was up and down like a jack in a box.
If I'd known Catherine Tramell was to be sitting directly behind the Chancellor I would have recorded it Wink

Re: Did the earth move for you?

Using this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17442946 the only significant change is the increase in Old Age Pension which is a bit silly as it ignore any change in my normal income.
The effect ignoring that is that I will be about £50 per year worse off most of which the cost of running the car

Re: Did the earth move for you?

It looks like the "Granny Tax" could be Osborne's "10p tax" fiasco......  Crazy
Pensioners do tend to turn out and vote and taking money away from them won't be popular.
And a fair few currently approaching 65 will get hit by a "double whammy" on this.

Re: Did the earth move for you?

You won't be that badly hit (yet) Strat as you'll qualify for the higher allowance in the 2012-13 tax year and retain that (without any uplifts) until the normal allowance overtakes it (3 or 4 years?).
But the differential that gave pensioners a higher tax-free allowance is now dead, unless Labour get voted in and decide to resurrect it.
Strange, as it's been a bulwark of tax policy for the aged for decades, yet Georgy Porgy has just decided to dump it.  Crazy
I'm a bit younger than you and get right royally stuffed by this as I'll never get that allowance now.  Angry

Re: Did the earth move for you?

Not much difference for me. I'm still out of work after 15 months so their so called increased tax allowance does nothing for me. The odd bit of petrol that goes in the car however is crucifying me. I had to scrape together £40 for fuel for my last job interview  and never got the job (I found out while I was there that it had been fixed in favour of those with degrees). The car is now becoming a liability and will shortly be disposed of. At that point I have no chance of employment. Nice to know the government are behind me.

Yes.. the government are in it with us to get rich and help their chums to get richer.
We're in it with them to be screwed.
