Desktop Screen Grab...lifesaver

Desktop Screen Grab...lifesaver
In addition to my various backups, I also do a daily Desktop Screen Grab.
Sometimes more often, depending on my re-ordering of Desktop Icons.
This has been a lifesaver more than once, when somehow, by a combination of key presses, all my Screen Icons stop being positioned where I want them, and become nicely ordered on the RHS.
This asists me in re-positioning the Icons back where I want them, to where they were before.
Shown is a blurred image of my desktop, for privacy, obviously when I do a grab for myself, it is all pinsharp !!
And it includes the top of screen icons & drop down menus.
On my iMacs, I have Screen Grabs user defined F1 for whole screen, and F2 for specific window grabs, and highlighted sections too.
So my daily Desktop Screen Grab is a one key press.... F1
And highlighted windows are F2... Space... Click.

(I've posted this in Chit Chat as it is not Apple nor Windows specific.)

It's like flying a Military Aircraft, you know where all the buttons are without having to read each one !!

Re: Desktop Screen Grab...lifesaver

I don't use my dekstop icons at all, as everything I need are on 'mostly hidden' taskbar.

I also use this every time I order anything from the Internet, just in case of problems.
Every webpage as I go through the ordering process.
Very useful, especially in "Item not as described" claims.

Additionally, anything that "grabs" my interest whilst surfing.

I hate anything on my desktop; it's completely blank and everything I need is accessed via hidden custom toolbars.

I'm the same, very little actually ON my desktop, I don't understand these people who have a desktop covered in icons, they can't find anything  Cheesy
A quick trip to the awn dock at the bottom, or the menu and a few keypresses (in the search box on Mint) I can find anything I need.

Me too although I do tend to use the Desktop for a number of folders where files are stored temporarily when I don't want them to be automatically backed up

Re: Desktop Screen Grab...lifesaver

Actually, I do occasionally allow something on my desktop, something that I need to deal with so that it sits there, obvious and annoying by messing my tidy desktop, and which forces me to deal with it quicker!

The only extraneous item on my desktop at the moment is the text file that contains the diary of the dog barking next door  Angry Its only there for easy access and will be deleted when it is sent to the council.

Re: Desktop Screen Grab...lifesaver

I have the most frequently used apps' icons on my desktop but not that many compared to the desktop size and I have everything set to small.
On the right I have two weather gadgets; one for local and one for Dnepropetrovsk.
I know where they are and can quickly tell if something has moved or been added when it shouldn't have been.
Sometimes I have to use All Programs from the Start menu to run an infrequently used app.
I often wonder why I have my own Theme for the desktop background as it rarely gets seen - usually just after a reboot Cheesy
