Definitely not what was intended!

First commercial flight of an Airbus A350 today from JFK.

Sounds noisy?
Add: apparently one of the computer systems deemed the runway to be too short and slammed on the brakes automatically!

Re: Definitely not what was intended!

Considering the computers aboard such aircraft these days can fly a plane from departure to arrival, I'd put more faith in those then the pilots who often nod off for a snooze mid-flight... Grin

Oh dear!! It's an embarrassment and no more. It's a fantastic aircraft and I would fly on it. Brings many jobs to the UK as well.

On the contrary, they appeared to err on the side of caution presumably with the data they were supplied Wink

Indeed, a computer is only as smart as the user that operates and inputs data into it, which explains facebook nicely... Grin

So you'd be happy for a computer to take risks instead? - with your life and the other passengers?
Face it, the plane is a wrong'un.

There are fail-safe precautions to cope with such things. I agree with Strat.

Re: Definitely not what was intended!

Yes..and what do you think just cut in for a reason in this case? - A fuse breaker? engine immobiliser perhaps? Roll eyes
Has it not occurred to you that something wasn't quite right here and that lives could have been lost?

Re: Definitely not what was intended!

Plane decides the runway was too short (whether that's a data input by humans or a sensor error, who knows), plane slams on the brakes to prevent lives being lost if it had failed to reach a sufficient speed for takeoff, I'm not seeing the not-fit-for-purpose argument here, if anything it proved the system worked, even if triggered erroneously...

The point being that it shouldn't have triggered on a runway that was long enough  Roll eyes
You guys keep assuming that its down to some runway length input error. Why?

Re: Definitely not what was intended!

The runway length required would depend on the takeoff speed so I assume this constantly changes.
Maybe the pilot just didn't accelerate early enough?
