De La Rue abandons passport appeal

Amid profit warning and a decision by the UK government to farm out production of the new £20 note a Chinese company, can we expect more protests as yet another British company goes to the wall. Wink

Re: De La Rue abandons passport appeal

The thing that bugs me is, THEY (the government) decided to have the colour reverted back to blue, and I'm sure that I read somewhere that the cost of a passport will go up by £10. Well, if this government change the colour, why don't THEY pay for it. I am not renewing mine again when it runs out, at almost 65 year old..I can't see the point.

A float tip is pleasing in its appearance and even more pleasing in its disappearance.

Does the production and distribution of the blue one (if and when it happens) invalidate the burgundy one? I'm not sure it does - and I hope not as I only renewed mine two years ago, and at 71.......

Maybe they'll hand them out free to pensioners. Thumbs Up

Re: De La Rue abandons passport appeal

Aren't De La Rue the company who print our banknotes?

So they already have a license to print (our) money - literally in that sense.
I'm sure they can't be doing too bad.

I read somewhere that No you don't need to change your existing passport. Though this is the governement and it is not as if they don't have a history of changing their mind. Roll eyes

Your current burgundy EU branded passport will be valid until its expiry date.

October 2019 is when the blue passports is planned to be issued so when you renew / apply for one after that date you will get the blue passport.

@Anonymous - Did you not see the Wink in @Minivanman's OP?

Yes, @Mook, I did see the Wink in @Minivanman‘s OP. However, the syntax of that post would suggest that the Wink applied to “can we expect more protests as yet another British company goes to the wall”.

Or perhaps we can all now post whatever lies and untruths we want as long as we also a Wink anywhere in the same post?

Re: De La Rue abandons passport appeal

Some politicians/economists have this weird idea that country (taxpayer) saves money if they pay a lower fee by having services performed offshore.  At some point someone has to earn the money via exporting to pay for the offshore work.

If the task is performed on-shore in the UK and costs £x; the Government will recover part of the expenditure through taxation and it doesn't drain the national income derived from exporting. In any event bank notes and passports should be regarded as part of national security and only done on-shore.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
