Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2542587/Couple-cheated-taxpayer-55-000-benefits-pay-luxury-c...

Think yourself lucky you ven get what you get. They won't give me a penny and I've been legally disabled for the last 5 years. It's cost me multiple jobs too yet their so called disability discrimination laws that are there to protect people like me have done nothing but the opposite - encouraged my employers to force me out the door.
You think you got it tough Ra, there are others who have it a lot tougher.

Re: Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

They're scum and should be shot. Just give me a gun.
For a few years I managed to get £59 a week as a carer  to my dear old Mum.
That was a 24/7 job, not that I ever looked upon it as a job.

Re: Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

Carer's Allowance... That's a strange one...
A couple can be carer's for each other but how does that work? If one is bed-ridden how can he/she be a carer for the other? Maybe that is checked out first Undecided
Also, if you earn above a certain amount you still get allocated CA but just not get the money.
It wasn't until we moved from living with and caring for my mother that I learned, as she was in receipt of Attendance Allowance, one of us could have claimed CA.

@7up, don't get me started, I've been saying for years that the Disability Discrimination Act, and its little Brother the Equality Act of 2010 aren't worth the paper they're printed on because the government don't enforce either of them.

Re: Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

The Daily Smail makes my blood boil at times -  they are always on about the small percentage who cheat the benefits system - and seem to forget the rest of us who really need it. I have an incurabl cancer which is disabling in many ways -cancer means one needs extra money for all sorts of things. Yet we are made to feel guilty that we need help - even though most of us have never done anything to deserve it.
Get those that can work back to work certainly - but give those that really need help a decent amount of support. And get rid of that horrid system company that wrongly assesses us.

The government don't really enforce anything though do they. They don't enforce criminal laws, the police do. Same with the disability stuff - criminal acts against the disabled are supposed to be enforced by the police. Work related disability discrimination however is a PITA because its a civil issue that you either deal with via a union or an employment tribunal. The latter being very hard to prove your case to and get any assistance from. Technically however the discrimination laws are enforced  Undecided

Re: Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

Benefit fraud amounts to about 0.7% of the total social security budget. Peanuts in the scheme of things.
The highest proportion of fraud is not in JSA or ESA, but in Pensions Credits.
The political and media establishment are adept at presenting the odd extreme example as if it were typical of claimants as a whole. In this way, they can turn the population against claimants in general as a useful diversionary tactic to turn public wrath away from those who are really ripping us off. This in turn enables governments to do things to claimants without initiating the tempête de merde which would otherwise result.
It's a tactic as old as the oldest pogrom and it keeps on being deployed because - alas - it still works, as most of the comments on this thread have amply proved.

Re: Daily Mail story about benefit cheat!

Cool It is not genuine claimants who are the problem - that includes the disabled, the displaced and pensioners. It is the parasite class who feast on free money gifted to them by our socialist-federalist state; a state run by politicians who believe citizens who struggle to help themselves are the charity of those who live to help themselves. Now we are coming to a reality check;  parasites are a luxury the political class can no longer afford. That's if the political class wants to carry on living off everyone elses free money.

That I really doubt as there used to be a lot of paperwork involved and also home visits
