(D)evolution

We've had many threads about the pros/cons of modern technology; computers, satnavs, and so on. You can talk to Google and get your answers, spellcheckers to check your text... and so much of life is put in front of us without having to think much about the whys and wherefores.
So my question is this...
Can we, as a species, regress due to that fact that so much is done for us that we no longer need to think for ourselves? Obviously this is a generalisation as there will still be people required to design, build, program these devices but that is just a small percentage of the human race.
Any thoughts?

Re: (D)evolution

you only have to look at the generations of out of work sofa surfers to see this has been the case for some time, the rabid underclass breed faster and younger with each generation whilst the workers and thinkers are having fewer offspring leading to a decline in societal concepts and values by the underclass who are more interested in booze fags sex and free hand-outs than adhering to any commonly acceptable behaviour patterns
there was a film called idiocracy out some years back that pokes fun at the whole thing (and its a funny film if your not a prude) but it wont be all that long before such problems become endemic and insurmountable, maybe as little as another hundred years if the short-sighted thinkers of the previous administration return to power for any period of time again to continue there strange social experiments.......

Re: (D)evolution

No; even if a species 'regressed' in our eyes it is still evolution. Evolution can only go forward http://www.livescience.com/7886-evolution.html
