Since when has oldage been one word? We meant Old People! None of this politically correct nonsense. Grin

Oh yeah, generally speaking OP relates to Original Poster in this context.

To save us writing another one there's already a fantastic glossary of acronyms and technical terms on the usergroup website. I'll ask the mods to add a link to the useful links post.

Re: Format hard drive without a floppy drive

Hmm.
Is thanks actually short for thank you or is it merely the plural of thank?
I'm just randomly pondering Smiley

Re: Format hard drive without a floppy drive

Reminds me of a guy who works in our warehouse, he's not too clever with numbers, but knows the difference between (in order of quantity)
None,
One,
Some,
Many.
So I guess thanks could be some thanks, or many thanks.
How many thanks do we have? Should we conserve them by only using some thanks, rather than always giving away many thanks.

[me=James_H]starts to recall the grumpy pensioners at Morrisons yesterday. I think they had run out of thanks (and manners - do people also give away 'many manners'? Shocked)[/me]

[me=James_H]also remembers the Forum Rules and reminds everybody (especially himself) not to take this further off topic, otherwise he'll be forced into some thread splittage to avoid drifting.[/me]

I get 'many thanks' attached to the bottom of emails 3 or 4 times a day so I have quite a stock.
I usually sign off with thanks so I don't use that many.
If I do run out I have a reserve stock of Regards.

Re: Format hard drive without a floppy drive

Ahh, but "many" thanks implies a multitude of thanks, "thanks" as a plural suggests only two thanks. Thanks' would be singular assuming the "s" has been forgotten, as thank without a following pronoun is improper English, Thanks; would seem to be that there are thanks to follow...I'm waiting.
I really must get out more!!
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Format hard drive without a floppy drive

But it should be ok to use thank as the following word would be you, eg Thank you.
But if you are replying to someone then the 'you' in Thank you is superfluous as they know it's them to whom you are replying. So Thank should be ok Smiley

Actually, I meant "thanks a lot". Not " many thanks" but having read all the different versions, I will add another..... Could it be that it is really the past tense of the word "think".  but then I dont know many people who actually "thinks a lot" either ! ! Grin Grin Grin Roll eyes
