Re: Covid-19 Spend, spend, spend..... NOT

Estate agents are parasites.

In any other profession market rigging would result in criminal prosecution. When it comes to property it's all apparently above board.

I despise this country and the parasites that have infested it.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

You could add financial market traders to that who hammer prices down by selling "short" to complete the deal at a profit while long term investors are left with a loss..

And while we are about it, Equity release on your house benefits mainly the salesman. Live long enough with compound interest and charges and 25% of your hous cash could ultimately leave you with nothing. The small print says - the final total of the debt will never exceed the net sale price of your property......

Well, that's what happens when the people of the country let the Oxbridge types worm themselves into government...

Re: Covid-19 Spend, spend, spend..... NOT

Problem is no matter who you want to run the country or businesses there are people who are useless irrespective of background, not uncommon to hear those harping on about equality and people’s rights change their tune once they get into a position of power.

Whilst there are some good people who run businesses or rule a country there are also a lot of idiots and you wonder how they ever got to hold that position.

It must have been a bunch of idiots who appointed that chap to run the Royal Mail from his home in Switzerland, then they sack him with a million pound payoff....

Then we have our socialist friend, Tom Watson appointed to a music appointment on a good salary...what the (censored) does he know about music compared to the vast number of musicians who would have been more suitable.

Maybe they mistook him for Russell Watson? The fella who sang the theme for Star Trek: Enterprise, among many other things of course... 🤣

Re: Covid-19 Spend, spend, spend..... NOT

I live just along from a car auctioneers. Went there once years ago and was seriously surprised at the tat being sold at inflated prices. On top of that the BUYER then has to pay further fees - not the seller. Naturally those fees are quite steep so you bid what you think the car is worth and then get clobbered for more cash on top of that.

Oddly it's incredibly popular.

But even so, it doesn't help me out. Like i said i'm looking at vans. Cars are slightly easier to find but vans... not so.

Nothing that says you have to use one - I didn't when buying my 2nd house. Private sale between two individuals. He said how much he wanted and I judged it to be about right. And what you might class as market rigging to me is just getting the best value for a property. And you certainly can lose lots. When I sold my first house, I had 3 estate agents come around. First valuation was £85,000 2nd £95,000. 3rd £112,000. I said to the highest, if you can get me that, the job is yours. 3 weeks later it was sold for £112k. Strange to say, the first one was the same estate agent that I'd bought it through originally. Maybe they had someone lined up for it for a quick sale again at increased profit.

But yes, market traders, I'd certainly agree with @TeeGee . I think there should be a minimum holding period for shares. Couple of months as a minimum with real hard cash having been paid over. Currently, some of the dealings look like one big scam.

Ever helpful. Grin Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?

@7up That may be explain because everyone is doing online shopping so more people are buying vans so they can get employment delivering packages hence a shortage of vans for sale!!Thumbs_Up

Thought you had got it wrong about buyers fees.....except you were right

Last time I went to a car auction was well over 20 years ago, no buyers fees were charged then, looking at feedback on the internet it’s clear they are screwing buyers for every penny they can get out of them, even a charge added to the buyers fee if bought over the internet plus parking charges for purchased cars....

As @TTman mentions some could be buying vans for deliveries, a job few, if any will make much money on.....if you can wait until the current crisis is over its likely some firms will sadly go bankrupt and vans may be easier to get hold of...

Must be 20+ years since I've been to a car auction.

You could pick up some interesting fun taxed & tested motors really cheap on banger night - have some fun for a week or 2 then still get some beer tokens back when you took it down the scrappy.

A friend of ours picked up a really nice 205 GTI 1.9 cheapish as it was getting late plus it was the last car to go through that evening & most other people had already left.

@gleneagles I wouldn't say it if I didn't know it to be correct. Like I said, I have been there in person and seen what's charged. Went there with a neighbour who was looking for a motor, we decided it was a waste of time.

Re: Covid-19 Spend, spend, spend..... NOT

When I used to go to car auctions it was just for a laugh or to see what certain cars were like. As you could play about with them a bit, start them up, and give them a rev. The only not allowed / do not sign they had was "don't put them in gear".

Then over the years things changed. Along with no starting and there was definitely a bit of shilling going on with the traders.

Checking my Inventory, it's been exactly 2 months since I bought anything other than food, Loo Roll or Kitchen Roll !

So I've spent more on food, and nothing on anything else !

And with home delivery, (no charges this last month) it's been comparable to what I normally spend.

And of course, no Petrol costs.

Which means I am able to support family members, who although working from home, there is an uncertain future.

As yet, none are furloughed, nor claiming benefits.

As for the future, get a job in a Supermarket, there will always be a need for food.

Very true but you can only eat so much 😀

And while trying to spend some money, do watch out.

Just had a very unpleasant experience on Amazon. Bought a CPU on 7th May, delivery had shifted out to between 22nd May and 1st June! Ok, strange times for deliveries I know. Even more so, when after a couple of days it said it had been dispatched (starts to think 'where on earth is it coming from' - it had mentioned UK warehouse and in stock).

Enquired about the tracking number (for DHL) yesterday only to find out A: it hadn't been dispatched at all and B: delivery (from the Netherlands, so it turns out) wouldn't be happening much before middle of June. Grrrr. Cancelled and bought off a site I've used before. True, cost £35 more but best pay that than wait in limbo land. Arriving in 2 days time.
