Could I get away with useing an adjustable tile hole cutter on ply

Or would it
1. Be useless
2. do more damage that it's worth
As many know I am doing a project in making two Fan panels / for the Mancave
However I have not got a suitable 75MM hole saw / cutter
& just for a one off job, I do not really want to purchase one then have it stuck being dormant for many a year never to be used again,
plus I couldn't deal with the hassle of selling it on after it has been used
I can borrow a tile cutter as described above, & was wondering if it would be up to the task
I know I could drill a series of holes & the pop it out, however I would prefer a much neater job Wink

Should be fine - they are only carbide tips anyway.
Just don't overheat it and keep the dust out of the groove.

Includes all popular sizes, 21, 25, 29, 38, 44, 51 & 64mm diameter hole saws, pilot drill, arbor and hex key.

Found a 76MM http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Power+Tool+Accessories/Holesaws/M3+Bi+Metal+Holesaw+76mm/d80/sd1530/...
Might be able to get away with it as it for Standard 80MM Square PC Fans
I have also located a 76MM from Screwfix a tad more expansive however weighing up the costs of P&P from ToolStation & having to wait, I could walk to Screwfix, but not nearest ToolStation Wink
That said I am awaiting a phone call to see of my mate is popping in on his way home with the tile cutter

One way is to use a hand coping saw if the ply isn't too wide alternatively if you are careful a good jig saw

Actually referring to your previous post putting a coping saw blade into a tile cutter will also do the job as the grinding cutting wire on a tile cutter won't work

Do you know any electricians? They will have a 75mm hole cutter.
Is it MDF you're cutting?
Use a few layers of masking tape. It helps stop the blade/saw from slipping and splitting the wood.

As in the title it is ply approx 5MM thick
The leckies that I know, won't lend squat tbh

They work reasonably well - lots of noise and dust but if you take it slowly you can get a nice neat hole in a tile. I often go through from both sides as soon as the pilot bit goes through which also makes a neater cut.

Re: Could I get away with useing an adjustable tile hole cutter on ply

The problem with cutting ply is the layers all have grain going in different directions, this gives it strength but causes it to splinter very easily. It's a bugger of a job to get a neat mechanical cut.
You want a neat finish, I would go for marking it, drilling inside the mark many times, then trimming with a Stanley knife (basically whittling) then finishing with sandpaper.
Good luck. Smiley

It has been dropped off,
He did say that it does throw the drill slightly off balance, & could damage the bearings on prolonged use
Will use an off cut for testing,
Will also go through both sides, to see how effective it is Wink (Thanks DomS for that idea) Smiley

Drill the pilot all the way though the wood with a wood drill first then you can do a 50/50 cut from each side with the tile cutter.
