Re: Costa cruising

a slight mis-calculation of the ships position?  how can this be, with modern GPS navigation systems, and radar?
The report on SKY news says the ship hit a reef (they don`t shift about on the ocean floor).... and then the captain set course to get as close in to the land to launch the lifeboats.... unfortunately, the report continued, this may well have hindered the launching, as the ship began to list more and more....

Re: Costa cruising

Always strikes me as a bit odd:- life jackets in your cabin which could be 6 decks and 250 meters from where your having a meal

For many years now I always carry a torch when I maybe in a situation where power cuts may mean darkness.
Especially after the report of the Chunnel Train where no-one had a torch, and were trying to escape.

Re: Costa cruising

When you look at the size of these ships (most are like small towns) it's hard to imagine they can come to grief.
I guess those on the Titanic thought the same.

Re: Costa cruising

Reports at around 5am were that the Captain announced it was a simple 'electrical error' as passengers reported a feeling a  bump and the lights going out.

Re: Costa cruising

I Wonder if he thought it was a simple electrical error or did he say that to prevent panic amongst those on board.
According to the news 50 people are still missing

Re: Costa cruising

I should have added that the report also mentioned that the captain requested everyone put on their life jackets. I remember reading at the time (BBC website, I think) that widespread panic set in almost immediately.

Re: Costa cruising

3 deaths have been reported and 50 presently are missing.  The Foreign Office say there are Britons amongst the passengers but cannot confirm how many. A number of the crew are also British.
