@Minivanman I never read any DM related links, I've got better things to do.

Re: Coronavirus

I'm still wondering why "corona" virus.

Why was it named after what used to be my favourite range of soft drinks.

So google reveals corona - crown - spikes on virus blah blah.

It would make more sense to me if someone at the lab just came out and said we really named it after an old soft drink. And that the virus passed its fizzical.

Re: Coronavirus

Maybe the person that first discovered it shouted out 'ay Caramba!' and those around thought they heard 'corona'?  🙄

I thought it was named after the cheap "beer" like substance, cheap & nasty, and nobody with taste wants it... 🤣

The corona is also the name of a certain part of the male member, although the virus - or its effects - has nothing to do with that area of the anatomy.

Re: Coronavirus

According to the TV yesterday it is named after 'Crown' which is what the virus looks like under a microscope.

Re: Coronavirus

Total number of passengers on the Diamond Princess testing positive now exceeds 80....Ref BBC News.

Imagine being in a inside cabin which is just a small steel box, no daylight and no chance of leaving that cabin....even those in prison get daylight and exercise.

Guess they have little option but to put up with it but what country is going to allow a ship with that number of infected passengers entry ?

Suspect they will be there for some time.

@gleneagles

Maybe they should just sail it up the English channel, after all we seem to let anybody in these days. 😉

Re: Coronavirus

Reminds me of a picture someone posted in another thread of a ship sailing off into the sunset leaving the escapees to survive... 😂

But that aside, it's pretty much the reason I would never want to go on a cruise ship, too many stories of viruses spreading onboard resulting in the ship pretty much being a floating deathtrap, with people needing to be helicoptered off in severe cases... 🤢

I wonder if they have turned off the ventilation on that cruise ship,  as that will blow the virus to every cabin and part of the ship - as you rightly say cruise ships are floating germ incubators..

Re: Coronavirus

Would not sit well with me being shut in like that as I'm slightly claustrophobic. Maybe if it had a port hole, but otherwise....

Not going to happen though despite those adverts by Rob Brydon. Way beyond my means and way beyond my desire to see nothing but, well the sea.

Re: Coronavirus

I'd rather be on a narrowboat than a cruiseliner, cos at least then if you don't like your neighbour, you just pull up the ropes and push 'em off downstream... 🤣
