Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

Yep you heard that right Tongue
SWMBO spotted & queried it to me & I ain't sure what to answer
On a Ross Chicken Curry & Rice  320g ready meal
It states to & in order
1. Cook on full power 5 Minutes
2. Defrost 5 Minutes
3. Stand 1 Minute
Do you think the printer(s) got 1 & 2 mixed up ?Huh
Or
Is there a scientific reason that Defrost would come in 2nd place ?Huh
One would of thought that it would require defrosting, in the 1st instance ?Huh

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

I imagine as a microwave can heat in hotspots, the idea of defrost after high power is to spread the heat evenly.  Defrost  (I think) cycles through heat and resting periods. Many frozen foods cook from frozen, so in effect all this is doing is adding more heat over a period of time.

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

Worth contacting them.... as it could be .... as you said.... a misreading of the instruction.... OR... more seriously.. could lead to a Food Health problem...
I am sure they will respond fairly quickly , in either event... and it don`t cost you nowt... 0800 number or email...  Wink

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

I often enjoy a frozen curry and rice meal.
Normally instructions are to remove from package and pierce film,
Cook at max power for 6 mins
Peel back film and stir contents. Replace film,
Cook at max power for 3 mins
Stand for 1 minute.

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

Just spoken to Sian on the 0800 number that Shutter provided & after giving her 2/3rds of the bar code, she claimed it was not one of their products & it could be from a source that they outsource to.
Surely if they outsource, then they still technically own the the product as it contains their brand name 7 should know what the product is / contains etc

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

Hmm..... Yes.. I would agree with you on that "outsource" thing.... Maybe she is thinking... "I work for YOUNGS... and he is asking about ROSS foods".... so it isn`t "our" problem.... however... I think the next step is environmental health dept ..... just a phone call for info as to the correct way of cooking, as it is "confusing you"... or ... the Manager of the supermarket you bought it from.... write a letter to him... and ask for a written reply....

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

I just spoke to a Christine from local E/H & she said that the instructions do not seem right & she will contact the manufacture & will get back to me in due course,
&
NOT to CONSUME the product to be on the safe side, & to keep the product frozen until she gets a definitive answer (for reference / evidence if needed)

I would contact Defra, FSA, your local council, MP, councillors as well - just to be on the safe side.

Lets await the response (before we get ahead of ourselves) & feel the needless contact of Defra / FSA / MP / EHCR may / may not be in order

Re: Cook on full power before defrosting query ??

Simple solution, take it back to the store and ask them. Most likely they will not know  so get a refund and let them do all the enquiring about the label.
Get yourself another curry (from a different store)
