Constant calls that leave you cold

This month, for the first time ever, you can stop energy sales people knocking at your door. All you need to do is put up a sign in a prominent position that says, clearly, that you do not wish to receive uninvited doorstep sales callers. You can download one from the internet. And new rules that the energy companies have agreed to mean that if you have a 'no cold callers' sign, they can't come in. But if they knock anyway, you should report their name and employee number to the company and if that doesn't go anywhere, go to the Energy Ombudsman.
Companies don't just use the doorbell to sell, they reach for the phone too. To avoid unsolicited calls, sign up for free to the Telephone Preference Service. It takes a month to set up, but then it is a legal requirement for UK companies not to pester you with marketing or sales calls. Sadly, there's nothing more they can do to stop the calls that drive us even more crazy, namely the silent ones.
If you want to stop getting uninvited calls...
You can join the telephone preference service register, www.tpsonline.org.uk or call 0800 398 893. This should stop the majority of calls.
For competition calls - which are the product of random number generator - you can complain to PhonePayPlus: www.phonepayplus.org.uk.
And if you want to avoid junk mail...
There are two different sorts of junk mail.
If it's got your name and address on it you can join the mail preference service register - at www.mpsonline.org.uk. Or there's a number 0845 703 4599.
If it's leaflets, flyers or unaddressed post - you can contact the royal mail at optout@royalmail.com or send a letter to:
Freepost RRBT-ZBXB-TTTS,
Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Out,
Kingsmead House,
Oxpens Road,
Oxford, OX1 1RX

my preferred method for dealing with the junk that comes through with the post is to pop it back in the post box  Grin

Re: Constant calls that leave you cold

Thank you for that information.  I have a sign on my door which I made myself on the computer.  It is brief, to the point and polite but nobody seems to take any notice of it.  Also, I have a sign on my mailbox - Royal Mail only - no charity bags etc but again, they don't bother to read or take no notice (the latter probably).  Armed with this new information I can now take action with these door knockers who I think are very intrusive.
PS Done all of the suggestions made above and they do seem to work.

Re: Constant calls that leave you cold

Sign on our front door was there when we bought the house - "No Hawkers, Canvassers, Circulars  or Parasites of any other form"
We once took it down but the callers increased so it went back up  Smiley

your welcome

if your thinking about  a  source for clear film to make your window or door sign?
here is an online shop selling a pack that contains
5 A4 sheets of clear or white film (INKJET PRINTABLE STICKER PAPER)
http://www.artzi.co.uk/acatalog/sticker-paper.html
perhaps you can buy just one sheet of this sort from your local WH Smith's shop on the high street

Re: Constant calls that leave you cold

I laminated mine and it has held up well. Did one for my friend too but like me, it does not seem to deter callers.

Re: Constant calls that leave you cold

I thought some might do that and nail it to the wall  at the side the door
its easier to print a sticker straight out from a printer and just stick  it onto the glass in the front door
or if your door is solid onto the front window

if its an energy company regulated by the energy ombudsman, its simple
just point the salesman/woman  to your sign
then ask them for their name and works number (ID Card)
phone up and report them to their company
providing you have indeed displayed a no cold callers sign
you should write to the company concerned as you can now claim compensation from the company
for being nuisances

pierre - I thought you were such a gentle type of chap!  nailing them to wall is a bit cruel..................... perhaps you should just paste them up instead?
