Confidential Data

Here's a good one.
This morning our Accounts received a CD from HMRC with tax code updates. When she tried to install it it attempted to open Media Player.
She phoned me and I went up to have a look. On the CD were about a dozen short music tracks in German and nothing else.
Looking at a copy of last years CD showed exe files, dll files etc.
She wouldn't let us listen to any of the tracks as they were confidential.
She has since phoned the HMRC and been told it was a 'faulty batch' and a replacement is being posted.

Re: Confidential Data

Strat along the same lines on Confidential Data, have you seen: The Tech Lab: Bruce Schneier from BT on the BBC.

Conversation is not the same thing as correspondence. Words uttered in haste over morning coffee, whether spoken in a coffee shop or thumbed on a BlackBerry, are not official correspondence.  A data pattern indicating "terrorist tendencies" is no substitute for a real investigation.  Being constantly scrutinized undermines our social norms; furthermore, it's creepy.  Privacy isn't just about having something to hide; it's a basic right that has enormous value to democracy, liberty, and our humanity.

Re: Confidential Data

They've probably got it, exaggerated it and printed it as an exclusive Roll eyes
I could probably post a few of the tracks on the Forum as there are plenty of music related threads running at the moment Grin
They are probably DRM locked....that's Digital Revenue Management Roll eyes

Re: Confidential Data

I picked up the Scorpions album Unbreakable on the way home and I've just put it on the computer and it has tracks called 315L and Emergency on it and I can't seem to play them.

One of them wasn't "99 Red Balloons" by Nena, by any chance was it? Tongue

Perhaps Inland Revenue are trying out new ways of allocating tax codes by using music? Roll eyes

Perhaps so Josie and I've no doubt there are a few appropriate song titles around to illustrate that. Wink
