Comedian for President

Looks like the Ukrainians have elected a comedian as their new president.

Hardly show stopping news as other countries have had comedians at the top of the tree for years.

Re: Comedian for President

Actors, comedians, MP's at the end of the day it's all stand-up.

Careers blur from one to the other. Usually towards the better paid. Probably why we are getting more turning towards politics.

Indeed, but there was nothing funny abour Maggie, or Bliar come to that.

At least with an autonomus collective we could have taken them out and had 'em shot.

Lovely man Stalin, and he was nice to his Mum.Roll_eyes And Yeltsin, now there was a funny man.

Re: Comedian for President

Yet both survived in post for a fairly long time compared to a number of PM's

The question must be......why ?......if they were both unpopular ?

Re: Comedian for President

Just take a look at who stands behind the politburo during those grand parades in Red Square. Clue, they all wear peaked caps with gold braid.

Come to think of it, not that much different to the number of military that surround the US President at inaugurations.

Ironic, or not.

Re: Comedian for President

Dana (Eurovision Song Contest winner for Ireland) was an MEP, as was Michael Cashman (former EastEnders actor, now in the House of Lords), Glenda Jackson (no further introduction necessary) was an MP for many years.  Logic therefore dictates that sooner or later a comedian will 'ascend' to Westminster.  Perhaps the role of Speaker would be a suitable place to start his/her climb up the ladder thereafter.  Having Julian Clary in that role might be risky though, after the comment he made about the Chancellor of the Exchequer at an awards ceremony some years ago.

Re: Comedian for President

His health will not allow it, but just imagine for even a moment the likes of the now Sir Billy (the Big Yin) Connolly as a politician. Or how about another now Sir in the shape of Ken Dodd, with a twenty foot tickling stick sat in the Speaker's Chair. How titifilarious, he'd have those doddering Diddymen and women in the House sorted out in no time!

Ken for PM. He'd have my vote.

Re: Comedian for President

Politics is a big joke, anyway... so why not elect a comedian to be in charge.

The trouble is, most of the politicians jokers do not think about the consequences of their actions on the general public. only on how to impress/improve their own personal fortune and image, at the expense of reality.

No point in voting for someone whose dead @Minivanman, that would just be a waste of a vote. However, if David Mitchell were standing he'd get my vote.

Ah yes the great man has passed away but still, it was a good idea while it lasted... which is more than he did. Wink

And David Mitchell, a funny man a great writer as well - but just a bit too cynical?
