Re: Classic Gaff

Seems prone to making errors, and he could be the next President of the USA Undecided
He got it completely wrong on his visit here 2 weeks ago when he suggested we were not ready in our Olympic preparations.  Then went on to Israel and upset them.

Re: Classic Gaff

Obama did the same thing four years ago - though to his credit he did immediately realise that he had "misspoke" and correct himself unlike Romney.

I suppose if the presidential candidate hears "Ladies and gentlemen ... the next president of the United States" everywhere he goes the phrase sticks in his mind.

Re: Classic Gaff

To be fair many Britons feared the same at the time though they didn't think it right for a visiting Yank to say so.
Remember
Staffing problems at immigration
G4S incompetence
Fears of roads and public transport failing to cope with demand
Tube drivers threatened work-to-rule despite generous bonuses
Bus drivers strikes for not getting similar bonuses
Tube cleaners 48-hour strike for not getting similar bonuses
The leader of Unite Mr McCluskey saying workers should consider using strike action to disrupt the Games as part of their campaign against the Government's spending cuts.
Taxi driver protests at not being allowed to use the Games Lane
Floods
etc. etc.
It could so easily gone very wrong despite the efforts and skills of the planners. Despite ticketing problems and a wrong Korean flag incident it seems to have gone very well. Even the weather was kind.

Re: Classic Gaff

Quite a worry when you think people like this can have the power to end the world.........."Launch the missiles".... ten seconds later, "sorry I meant to say don't launch the missiles "

Richard Nixon........
Ronnie Raygun.....
Gee Whizz Bush.....
It seem mandatory  that you must be a hook, crook, or comic singer before you can be a Republican Presidential candidate, and yet they elect these people.
If Romney gets the gig I hope the "special relationship" is re-examined, but given the talent our own government has for getting it wrong, running down our armed forces to a virtually toothless rump may prove a blessing in disguise
