Christmas Cards

Well that's my Christmas cards done. I didn't have that many to do but I enjoy doing them.
I know the trend seems to be going against the giving of cards but I see it as, the ones I have to post I'm letting some family and friends know I'm still around.
And the ones that I personally deliver I see as a chance to cadge a cup of tea, or something stronger, and a chat.
A few of the people I send cards to live in the outer sticks so no emails or calls really possible.
And would anyone really send Christmas greetings by email or text? Not exactly something you could put on the mantelpiece under the decorations.
Do you all send cards? I only ask as the telly seems to be full of celebs that scoff at the idea of sending cards.
I appreciate that the postal cost has become extortionate. Christmas must be a nice little earner for RM.

Re: Christmas Cards

I think SWMBO will be doing them this evening or tomorrow.
We hand deliver where possible - we certainly don't send as many as years gone by when 30 or would be the norm. I think this year we'll only be posting 5 or 6.
I would be nice if the Post Office gave bulk-buy discounts at this time of year. Maybe some special Christmas stamps that can only be used during December?

Re: Christmas Cards

Well to be honest no, I hate the whole thing, it has nothing do with being an atheist either. I think the whole Christmas scenario has been hijacked by greed. Not just at a corporate level but by individuals as well. When I was a kid I loved it as it was a special time of year we all looked forward to and didn't start in October! Now its all commercialised ans ruined.
Sorry to put such a damper on the post but I suspect I may not be the only one that thinks this way.

@artmo, Don't ask
01) Lost 1 million quids worth of data.
02) Main computer is dying.
03) Roof is leaking in the bedroom.
04) Not enough time in the day.
I could go on but I won't

For 2012 Royal Mail sold stamps slightly cheaper to  people receiving certain benefits. Even that was not repeated for 2013.  I don't expect that a privatised RM will be more generous.
