Christmas...Bahh...Humbug

I'm not thinking so much of the event although I do think it's more for the kids than adults who have a habit of screwing it up.
No, it's Xmas. What's that, something that was 'mas' that isn't 'mas' any more....or crossmas Roll eyes
Maybe the X represents Christ on the cross I don't know Undecided
What was wrong with the word Christmas....I mourn it's passing Sad
Kind regards

Must agree with you Strat.  I guess Xmas was introduced by the advertising people Undecided
It's funny that in America they still celebrate Christmas in a traditional way but only for the 25th. They also spell it correctly  Many are back to work on 26th.
Of course the Americans have their big day this week.  Thursday is Thanksgiving Day which is a real family. Smiley

A thought - If Boxing Day is a Bank Holiday it can't fall on Sunday 26th December, this year, as banks don't open on Sundays  Cool

27 & 28 Dec are Bank Holidays, as Christmas Day & Boxing day are on a Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Christmas...Bahh...Humbug

I always thought if Boxing Day fell on a weekend the following Monday was set as an in-lieu Bank Holiday (in England N.I and Wales, not sure about Scotland)
Edit; you rather answered my point 4C.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Christmas...Bahh...Humbug

But should 26th December be referred to as Boxing Day if it falls at the weekend?
I was brought up to believe that it shouldn't be but my father's birthday was 26th December and he worked, all his working life, for the Midland Bank.

If you look at the threads last year or do a bit of research you will find that Xmas has been used for hundred of years.

Yes, of course. 1 Jan is still New Years Day if it's a Saturday or Sunday - the Bank Holiday will be on the following Monday.
