Christmas 2020

Santa won't be allowed to come down your chimney, nor knock on your door this Christmas, maybe.

(Aren't there 6 reindeer?)

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/christmas-under-threat-families-face-22652492

Family Christmases are under threat after the government admitted they may be hit by the new legal limit on gatherings at home.

Well that solves the problem of annoying relatives visiting.

I really can't see this being enforceable.

How are we going to buy presents, there's usually a great atmosphere around the shops & Christmas Markets.

Let's have loads of Snow, to make it feel like Christmas.

Not long now until the Christmas Channel starts showing festive films.

Re: Christmas 2020

Not only that, remember when you could blow out the candles on a birthday cake and then share it at around?

Would you like a piece Granddad?

Err, no thanks. Perhaps I'll just take a small piece home with me to eat later.

Re: Christmas 2020

The most wonderful time of the year could face cancellation this year, as councillors consider whether it will be safe to go ahead with the 2020 Manchester Christmas Markets.

Re: Christmas 2020

I can see a dilemma for the supermarket warehouse im based in.

Do they tell the NHS they no longer want to rent there racking space to them for there PPE - OR do they go for profit & fill it with Christmas products for consumers to buy in store.

Re: Christmas 2020

Great time for friends and families, but that and religion apart it's all just spend and hype weeks if not months in advance.

At least the kids will enjoy it... along with their parents watching them opening presents at 4am. Then it's Mum into the kitchen (it's always Mum) and dad back to bed until around 10am when he wakes up to the smell of that Christmas roast!

So as long as we can order in from say Amazon and families can be together - even if it is without Granny or Granddad this year, then what the heck eh.

And the New Year?

Well along with those celbrationary get togethers, holiday booking are out of the window that's for sure.

Re: Christmas 2020

Doing online shopping yesterday, I noticed Tesco have Christmas pudding now available! It will be Easter eggs next.

Re: Christmas 2020

When I was based in a supermarket distribution warehouse - the Easter eggs started coming in this month & had to be sent out so they where in the back of all the stores by boxing day.

You would eventually get sick of the sight of pallet fulls of Easter eggs in several aisles - they where right opposite the workshop exit.

Re: Christmas 2020

@agedgopher

But did you order one? 🙂

I love Christmas puds but this year the Mrs will be buying just two small individual ones as it's just the two of us - she's never keen on me pouring some warmed up whiskey over it and setting it alight!

No turkey either having plumped instead for 'duck in a tin' (Confit de canard)

Good thinking Batman!

Although they will/should keep for a couple of years - so maybe they will be cheaper in January?  Funny thing is they do seem to taste better after a year anyway.

Re: Christmas 2020

@Minivanman

They will improve due to the marination in the booze. we get more enjoyment with them tasting better and costing less!

At least double the enjoyment.

Plus with my health issues and having to have lots of isolation from friends and family, our Christmases usually last till about March anyway. Without the imposition of any lockdowns.

Re: Christmas 2020

I will be Covid safe this year, and just put money into their respective parents bank accounts.

Handwritten Christmas Cards will be sent as usual.

I already do these things for Birthdays this year. (Birthday Cards)

Plus, Whatsapp video calls.

(I've sussed out how to do them from my Computer, via a Bluestacks emulator app.

Using a second mobile phone to register [non smartphone]

(I've been warned not to use Zoom, as apparently it is insecure.)
