Re: Cheating at Brexit

@Minivanman Does this post from @Jonpe not clarify it?

In other words, if you are a black American holding a cell phone in Sacramento, you are just as likely to be shot 6 times in the back by the police if you are from New York as if you are from California.

Re: Cheating at Brexit

Well I hope I am not missing anything, what is right and what is wrong or whatever variation on that word you wish to impose applies both in the US and in the EU neither of whom hold them equally and neither of whom treat their citizens all the same. That's all I am saying.

Some here as we all know have the habit of picking up on the tiniest of detail and verbally bashing others over the head with it, although thankfully not literally.

I was just trying to return the courtesy. Thumbs Up

@Minivanman

Ah, those pre-internet days when arguments were measured in minutes rather than days, weeks...

Re: Cheating at Brexit

Confidence in the elections watchdog was evaporating last night as it emerged that almost half of its board have made public statements criticising the pro-Brexit campaign or backing calls for the result to be overturned, despite strict impartiality rules.

Seems all sides were cheating then Wink

@dvorak

Do you have a source for that?

And... the ‘election watchdog’ wasn’t really a ‘side’ in the referendum campaign, was it?

@dvorak

Thanks. Well, I was surprised to see the report had come from such a pro-EU paper as the Telegraph...

Bus as I said above, the electoral commission was not a participant in the referendum campaign, so how does that article indicate that ‘both sides were cheating’?

Re: Cheating at Brexit

To my mind this is sh mud stirring. The members' opinions were given after the referendum, so would have had no effect on the result. It worries me that no one must voice thoughts unless they are in agreement with the Brexit camp. At this rate judges, for example, will be sacked for not taking the party line. Remind anyone of a time past?

I absolutely do not believe the commission's impartiality will have been breached by some members having different opinions from others. Surely such varied opinions increase impartiality.

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Indeed. These are worrying times. We have already seen the pro-Brexit press causing judges of being traitors, and even in this thread seen expressing a minority view equated with wanting a dictatorship, and daring to disagree with the majority view as being ‘disrespectful’.

Freedom of speech? Nein danke.

Re: Cheating at Brexit

Free speech as long as you don't upset anyone, which these days seems to be everyone.

Step out of line and boom, there is always some liberal progressive control freak ready to pounce and condemn and y'know what, it's going to get a lot worse. Trust me.

My experience would suggest that it is the alt-right, neo-Nazi, neo-Facist groups who seem to pose the greatest risk.

Re: Cheating at Brexit

Indeed, but go far enough to the right and you find yourself on the extreme left. Thought control of the masses is not the prerogative of just one political class.

My concern is the way the Left has become a cacophony of 'is it cos I is' groups and yes, how nice to be all things to all people but Corbyn and his cohorts are chasing utopia embedded as they are by the world and his wife....... sorry, partner.

We've had New Labour, now stand by for New Socialism. Or let's not.

Re: Cheating at Brexit

@Minivanman

I have absolutely no idea what you are on about in your last post, or what relevance it has to this thread.

My point about freedom of speech in post #115 related to comments made to me within this thread that to dare to express disagreement with the referendum result is disrespectful and tantamount to wanting a dictatorship.

Your responses about ‘liberal progressives’, Corbyn and New Labour appear to be nothing but obfuscation. But @Minivanman, obfuscating? Surely not...

Re: Cheating at Brexit

I was replying in part to your "my experience would suggest...... " comment, so where am I obfuscating. I thought my answer to that was quite clear.

Anyways, since when have any of us kept to the original or subsequent posting - or are you claiming rights of ownership and control? Wink
