Re: Charlie Gard

Having done a little digging, I think his Fund was set up informally. I'm glad to read of an intention to set up a charity with the money. There were three paths to donation (see pic).

The informality of two surprised me.

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

@Minivanman

@VileReynard

At the end of the day Charlie Gard is the patient and GOSH's first duty is to act in his best interests.

Personally I have no doubts that they have.

So we are finally in agreement then.

So why should he not be allowed his final days at home?

His parents have the money to make adjustments to their home, they have the money to buy their own ventilator (which would cause further legal problems admittedly) and they have the money to hire their own medical staff.

They could even hire their own airplane to the USA and do what the Kings did.

That ladies and gentlemen is the REAL REASON the courts won't allow Charlie Gard out of a state control. Being made to look stupid by the Kings has made the state sink its teeth into Charlie Gard and more determined than ever not to lose face again.

@nadger  I agree with your comments about GOSH.

This is a very sad case. Sad primarily for Charlie but also for the parents and GOSH. I am sure that if GOSH could have done anything  else to help Charlie they would have done. They are one of the leading childrens' hospitals in the world and would have considered all suitavle options.

Re: Charlie Gard

I stayed out of this thread and this will be my only post but if you are going to start praising GOSH ask yourself why they felt the need to go to the press about harassment? sure it could of been dealt with internally. Wonder why they done that?

Re: Charlie Gard

@Steve - I  guess they went to the press in an attempt to notify the public about the level of the harassment their employees were under, as they (the public) were the source of it, in a hope that it would stop, so the hospital couldn’t have dealt with it internally.

Well they could have let him travel to America months ago for his final shot of the latest medical treatment available but they didn't.

I don't want to get into any of our old flame wars with you again artmo but I do have to question your logic at times like this.

GOSH have gone out of their way to make life difficult. Remember the Kings child? - Similar thing. NHS was being unhelpful and so they removed the child from the country for treatment abroad. The NHS then went hostile and tried to have them prosecuted!

You guys need to wake up. Just because it's british does not mean GOSH is the best and that their opinions are gospel. Other countries are making advances way ahead of us now - remember we have been UNDER INVESTING in science and tech research for many years while other countries have been doing more and more of it. The days of the UK being the best at everything are GONE yet GOSH and much of the NHS continue operating under the policy that what they think is the final definition.

Who is to say what his best interest actually is though? - You may think it is to die, others don't. That is the issue here.

I personally believe that GOSH deliberately stood in his way of treatment in the USA for many months until the point where his brain had deteriorated. That may NEVER OF HAPPENED had they let him go.

But instead they chose to do what they did and now he has to die because they wanted it that way.

Yet DNR orders on elderly patients are being seen as the wrong thingHuh

Re: Charlie Gard

You mean with the specialist they invited to see Charlie and study the notes and tests in January and he didn't do it until July

So they were to allow a patient in their care to travel to the USA to be treated by a doctor who had no knowledge of the case nor the patient condition

Re: Charlie Gard

You know as well as I do that he came over when Trump and the high court got involved. He was under no obligation otherwise.

Thats the way the healthcare system out there works - for profit / interest. Not necessarily for the sake of the patient. With that said I don't believe GOSH have been working for the sake of the patient in this case.

Re: Charlie Gard

He was invited over by GOSH in January and didn't come so I repeat were GOSH to allow their patient to be transferred to the care of a doctor in the USA when that doctor hadn't even seen the patient

Re: Charlie Gard

But we have no idea why he never came over. Maybe he had other critical patients or something.
