Changing energy supplier

How long does it take from when you have formally agreed to change to a new supplier for you to be transferred.
Confirmation was via phone and email three weeks ago but heard nothing since. Is this usual ?

Re: Changing energy supplier

Your new supplier will ask for your readings which use to be 30 days after you set in motion the transfer believe this now has been reduced to 21 days, the time is controlled by Ofgem

Re: Changing energy supplier

It took around 28 days for my changeover.
From information given to me from First:Utility you can give a reading up to 5 days prior and five days after the new contract begins and they will inform your old supplier.
Didn't quite work so smooth for me as I inadvertently switched gas/electric readings when giving them to F:U.
I informed BG of the correct readings but my final gas bill kept changing. Eventually I found out that BG had been contacted by F:U and settled on a new reading for gas (they both still used the correct electric reading I had previously given) based on previous usage. This meant that I had paid twice for the same period until F:U updated their system. Thankfully BG wrote that amount off anyway.

Re: Changing energy supplier

Thanks for the responses, never realised it would take that long.
Not a problem but having heard nothing for 3 weeks just assumed I would have got a written acknowledgement in addition to the e-mail.

Re: Changing energy supplier

It was the same for me in that I never heard anything for a number of weeks. Is your account with the new supplier available online yet?
Mine was from early on and I just used to check that regularly for updates.

Re: Changing energy supplier

They have a website but it needs a password or account number to access it and as yet I have not been given either.
At some stage I will need to sign a direct debit form so may well get it then.
One other thing  amongst many they mentioned during the phone call is that they would do a credit agency check, not a problem but I recall reading somewhere that all requests for checks were recorded and if there were a lot your credit rating could be affected, not sure if that is true but irrelevant in my case.

Re: Changing energy supplier

IIRC somewhere between 4 - 8 weeks sounds about right

Extraenergy, main office is in Birmingham, they are a German company.
Not many reviews about them as they are fairly new in this country and as one of the smaller outfits it's claimed they offer a better deal than the big providers.
Only time will tell if it was wise of me to move.
Was with Scottish Power for many years and had no problem with them but if I can save £100 + a year I will be quite happy.

Re: Changing energy supplier

Why did you move? Scottish Power is still slightly cheaper than them...  see attached.

Re: Changing energy supplier

I thought I'd check how long my switch took and it was actually 41 days inclusive and not the 28 I originally thought. It did seem to pass quickly, though.
