Censorship - should it be allowed?

In an enlightened World, Should Censorship be  still allowed
For those who dont already know
Censorship is defined as  the suppression of speech or deletion of communicative material which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the government or media organizations as determined by a censor.
different kinds are below
    * Moral censorship is the removal of materials that are obscene  or otherwise considered morally questionable. Pornography, for example, is often censored under this rationale, especially child pornography, which is illegal and censored in many jurisdictions in the world.
    * Military censorship is the process of keeping military intelligence and tactics confidential and away from the enemy. This is used to counter espionage, which is the process of gleaning military information. Very often, militaries will also attempt to suppress politically inconvenient information even if that information has no actual intelligence or combat-tactical value.[citation needed
    * Political censorship occurs when governments hold back information from their citizens. This is often done to exert control over the populace and prevent free expression that might foment rebellion. Another version of censorship is the phenomenon of disinformation which uses "red herrings" to distract people from some other controversial issue.[citation needed]
    * Religious censorship is the means by which any material considered objectionable by a certain faith is removed. This often involves a dominant religion forcing limitations on less prevalent ones. Alternatively, one religion may shun the works of another when they believe the content is not appropriate for their faith.
    * Corporate censorship is the process by which editors in corporate media outlets intervene to disrupt the publishing of information that portrays their business or business partners in a negative light[3][4], or intervene to prevent alternate offers from reaching public exposure

Does it feel right ?Is it right  ?? is it a right Huh

Re: Censorship - should it be allowed?

Its  not easy as
Causes for concern might be
The content of school textbooks is often the issue of debate, since their target audience is young people, and the term "whitewashing" is the one commonly used to refer to removal of critical or conflicting events.
The reporting of military atrocities in history is extremely controversial, as in the case of the The Holocaust (or Holocaust denial), Bombing of Dresden, the Nanking Massacre as found with Japanese history textbook controversies, the Armenian Genocide, the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, and the Winter Soldier Investigation of the Vietnam War.
Music censorship has been implemented by states, religions, educational systems, families, retailers and lobbying groups – and in most cases they violate international conventions of human rights
Internet censorship is control or suppression of the publishing or accessing of information on the Internet. The legal issues are similar to offline censorship. One difference is that national borders are more permeable online: residents of a country that bans certain information can find it on websites  hosted outside the country. A government can try to prevent its citizens from viewing these even if it has no control over the websites themselves.
Barring total control on Internet-connected computers, such as in North Korea and Cuba, total censorship of information on the Internet is very difficult (or impossible) to achieve due to the underlying distributed technology of the Internet. Pseudonymity and data havens (such as Freenet) allow unconditional free speech, as the technology guarantees that material cannot be removed and the author of any information is impossible to link to a physical identity or organization.
In some cases, Internet censorship may involve deceit. In such cases the censoring authority may block content while leading the public to believe that censorship has not been applied. This may be done by having the ISP provide a fake "Not Found" error message upon the request of an Internet page that is actually found but blocked (see 404 error for details)

Re: Censorship - should it be allowed?

one example of corporate censorship in action can be viewed here
censorship is a  civil rights issue
what do you think
has any law been  violated ?
the law expresses itself in part below
The right to freedom of speech is recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognized in international human rights law  in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The ICCPR recognizes the right to freedom of speech as the right to hold opinions without interference. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression
Furthermore freedom of speech is recognized in European, inter-American and African regional human rights law.

well after reading the oil story and hearing about Oliver letwing's book with a fore ward by john redwood in it 'privatize the world' and who said I dont have a quiet life, well i'm hardly surprised.
i'm expecting the head of Satan to come out through my monitor screen shouting 'boo boo boo'
and  to start swearing at me excessively

added further censorship reads
the ipad  apple computer company appears in the press  after material from book chart disappears
and financial crisis censorship in russia
and last year here google finds itself in a spot of  trouble after a Chinese newspaper says Google censored its Web Site
by adding a malware warning to search result listings for the newspaper’s book section
TalkTalk say they are preparing a malware engine filtering  listed sites that contain malware after following their customers
around on sites they have visited , so look out for even more censored websites carrying 'malware warnings'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that strength of our liberty depends upon the chaos and cacophony of unfettered speech
The strength of the Internet is chaos

Re: Censorship - should it be allowed?

I would remind the poster about this Forum Rule
Quote
Bumping of posts
"Bumping" is the act of adding to a thread just to get your topic back to the top of the list in a forum and should not be done.
Users who keep bumping their topics face action that may include the locking of the topic and / or removal of forum access.

If you wish to add further information I suggest using the Modify Option on the last post
