Carrier Bags............ re-used.

We re-use our Supermarket (& other) carrier bags for various purposes.
Domestic waste paper bin liners
Paper Shredder collections & disposal
Wrapping strong smelling foods before placing in Kitchen bin, ie Onions
Putting stripped Chicken carcasses into, before placing in Kitchen bin.
Bunny hutch sawdust disposal.
As a "Odour Stopper" in kitchen bins, shake bag, tie to make a rough balloon, then place on top of kitchen bin waste.
Disposal of small animal waste in the gardens.
Quick welly / shoe covers to walk into house when required.
Open up base, and use tied at top of bag, to cover exterior broom heads, for rain protection.

Plus many more uses I'll remember later !!
I'm sure you all have your own variations on re-use, including some very good Tips for the collective......

Re: Carrier Bags............ re-used.

The remnants of a Roast Chicken, Legs, Wings, Breast meat placed into a large plastic box, which has been lined with a carrier bag and top & tailed with Kitchen Roll, prevents any moisture or slight greasiness from touching the sides of the box, making for easier cleaning.
The bag & kitchen roll is just lifted out after removing the Chicken meats
Similar for other cooked meats.

Re: Carrier Bags............ re-used.

wrapping stuff in carrier bags before putting them in the bin is actually just a bad as throwing them away.
what do you think happens to the bag when you put it in the bin? it doesn't magically disappear just because you've used it again after it's original use.]
in fact, it means that the food waste you've thrown away can't be put with the other food waste at the recycling centre due to the plastic bag you've wrapped it in.

Re: Carrier Bags............ re-used.

I really don't see your skewed point...
We have the bags already, they are going to be disposed of, so put them to good use, before they are put into a larger bin bag which are not subject to any restrictions !!!
It's about re-using already held bags !

We don't have food recycling !!
And so is not separated at source....
You really often do make some obscure assertions.

Are you sure about no food recycling?
As an example Chesterfield food go into the green bin http://www.chesterfield.gov.uk/BinsRecycling-10.html

just because YOU don't separate the food at your end doesn't mean it does't get processed differently at the other end.
you putting it in a carrier bag just means that it CAN'T be processed with other food waste.
putting a carrier bag in the bin with food inside it is just as bad as putting it in the big with nothing inside it.
you may think you're giving the carrier bag a second use, but in fact you're not.

Re: Carrier Bags............ re-used.

I have seen bin men pick pick bags from bins and empty their contents into the bin and replace the bags in the bin.
Presumably they know something we don't.
