Card expiry date

Made a purchase just now online and there was a drop down menu listing the years from 2014 onwards. The last year listed was 2032!
The card with the longest expiry date I have is 01/18 and that was issued in January this year.
Is putting 2032 overkill or do some banks actually issue cards with such long-standing expiry dates?

Re: Card expiry date

I doubt it's anything to do with the banks' policy on cards, it's way more likely that whichever IT bod wrote the page just put in a randomly big number of years to include, just in case.  Or alternatively, there were extremely stupid and hard coded the years so put in a high number to reduce the need to modify the code in future.

Re: Card expiry date

Yeah who would trust developers eh?
Not that I know about that industry, (Tongue) but my guessing is the code was written in 2012 and so it was just hard-coded 20 years ahead.

Re: Card expiry date

The maximum time I've seen for an expiry date on a card is 5 years.  Can you imagine a card lasting 'til 2032 Undecided

Re: Card expiry date

Cards are changed though due to new technology - first we had chip & pin, now contactless.
My AMEX cards have no expiry date.

Re: Card expiry date

The vast majority.
I like AMEX because of the benefits/service - I've found no credit cards with the same.

Re: Card expiry date

some store cards don't have any expiry date, we hard coded a few to end in 12/99..
