Cannabis Legalised

The use of cannabis for medicinal purposes has been legalised by the government. The conditions for which it can be used have yet to be announced.

Medicinal Cannabis

Is this decision right or wrong?

Re: Cannabis Legalised

I have been to a meeting today when the news broke. We had around 12 doctors around the table. There were some that welcomed the decision, some that didn't and one that couldn't make up his mind. I think guidelines need to be stated so patients and doctors all know how this policy will be implemented.

Re: Cannabis Legalised

I for one welcome it in principle. As I have a severely disabled wife with amongst other things advancing Multiple Sclerosis, one of the medical recipients who could possibly benefit from this change, if her doctor will choose to administer it.

Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Cannabis Legalised

If there are proven benefits for certain conditions and it is strictly prescribed then I don't have a problem with it at all.

Re: Cannabis Legalised

@Mayfly     There appears to be benefits for certain conditions. I  think these are more anecdotal than medically based. I.m sure NICE will get round to looking into the claims.

There is some debate as to whether the prescribing will be by specialist consultants or if GPs will be allowed to prescribe.

There is also a decision to be made as to which type of cannabis will be used.

Perhaps they'll just issue gardening licences so that people who need it can grow their own. Grin

Re: Cannabis Legalised

It's scandalous that it's taken so long, as we're the biggest producer!

Britain is the world’s largest producer of legal cannabis, a new report from the United Nations has revealed.

Ninety five tonnes of marijuana was produced in the UK in 2016 for medicinal and scientific use, accounting for 44.9 per cent of the world total, its International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) found.

The UK is also the largest exporter of the drug, with 2.1 tonnes exported in 2016 – roughly 70 per cent of the world’s total, the report stated.
