Calling Mathematicians...How does this work

There are some clever guys on the forum many of whom will know how this works.
Just follow the simple instructions.... Huh

Re: Calling Mathematicians...How does this work

The key is in adding the numbers together then subtracting from the original - this gives a certain number of "hot numbers"
eg:
20  = 20 - 2 = 18
21 = 21 - 3 = 18
22 = 22 - 4 = 18
23 = 23 - 5 = 18
24 = 24 - 6 = 18
25 = 25 - 7 = 18
26 = 26 - 8 = 18
27 = 27 - 9 = 18
28 = 28 - 10 = 18
29 = 29 - 11 = 18
30 = 30 - 3 = 27

Them, they have the same symbol on each of the 'hot numbers' (which all happen to be multiples of 9)
9, 18, 27, 36 etc. etc.

Re: Calling Mathematicians...How does this work

But still this gives more then one possible outcome. So how does it know what Symbol to display?

Re: Calling Mathematicians...How does this work

Look at it again
When you get to the results screen, 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54 etc all have the SAME image
The selected image on each iteration is different, but the important thing is that the same image is on every one of those numbers
So they just display that image

It got 2 out of 3 right for me which is very good. It's almost as freaky as the spinning girl we had.

So what number did it get wrong or was it your maths  Grin. Sneaky the way they change the images associated with the numbers.

Maybe not as many as I first thought, and I include me as I don't have the patience, but I knew Barry would be in there Smiley

Embarrassed
Ok, so I can't help it Wink  It's one of those things that I *have* to figure out Smiley

I bet you are one of these people that sorts your small change by size and then chucks it back in your pocket.
*Guilty by admission*

Re: Calling Mathematicians...How does this work

Choose a two digit number: XY
Your number is therefore 10X+Y
Add together the two digits X+Y
Subtract from the original number gives you:
10X+Y-(X+Y)
Simplifying cancels the Y and reduces it to 9X
The table of characters always has the same character for all values of X, ie 1X=9, 2X=18, etc
So irrespective of what number you choose, the symbol will always be the same as that on every 9th digit.

Wow... they always did tell me that algebra would be useful in real life. Now I know how.

Well OK I know it has a lot of uses. But now I've seen one while I was thinking about it.

Er, I'll get me coat..
I'd better check that there's no change in the pocket.....
The problem is - I always thought doing that was completely normal...
