Burglar Alarm

A property alarm has just started across the road from me.

I know the family are out and I have never known their alarm to false trigger.

I considered calling the Police but they advise on their website not to use the 999 service or the 101 service if there is no sign of criminal activity.

Apart from the alarm going off there is no sign of criminal activity.

The advice is to check for criminal activity but is followed by "we strongly advise you not to perform this check yourself" Huh

Years ago I could have phoned the local nick and a beat officer would have had a walk round and a look.

Those days are gone.

A couple of the local kids on bikes, attracted by the noise have been down the path at the back of the house but I haven't been able to speak to them.

There has been a report of an attempted burglary 1/2 mile up the estate.

I just feel a bit helpless.

Re: Burglar Alarm

You could still phone the nearest police station. It may take them a while to come out - if at all - but at least you would have done your civic duty both as a member of the public and neighbour.

Re: Burglar Alarm

Lets hope it's just a spider in a passive. Should shutup and reset after 20 mins if it's a good alarm.

Looks like it has gone into silent mode with just the light flashing.

Re: Burglar Alarm

I would have run the police on 999 myself. If your neighbours get back and find valuables missing and you did nothing, aside from feeling bad you might find yourself liable. You probably won't.. but you know what the world is like these days.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Burglar Alarm

If your neighbour is away for some time, it might be worth phoning the  number on the alarm box for the company which services the alarm. With luck, your neighbour will have registered the name and address of a key holder with them who could then check all was well and reset the alarm.

Re: Burglar Alarm

Do you have any naval warships within 1KM?  One of my clients in the City of London at the edge of the Thames eventually worked out their false alarms were caused by the radar of a frigate tied up alongside HMS Belfast.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Burglar Alarm

In our old house, we had one go off next door..... and it went on all day. Ironically if even more annoying it had been installed by her brother who owned a security system company west of Swansea.

Been suggested since that I should have climbed a ladder and squirted some of that expanding foam into it.

Don't hear car alarms going off so much these day - thankfully.

@AlaricAdair Sheffield is about 80 miles from the nearest sea so I don't think that applies Wink

Re: Burglar Alarm

In these parts police officers always turn up with their radios at full volume so the criminals have a chance to get away.

I thought it was 14 different forms for every arrest.
