Bungled theft - or Publicity stunt?

In your favourite Daily Mail, to day.....

Chris Evans bike stolen from outside the BBC .... found in Lithuania.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4036702/Chris-Evans-bike-stolen-outside-BBC-studios-traced-n...

Obviously, this was an "organised crime"... but... did the thief make a mistake, ... should he have stolen Chris Evans..

perhaps a mixup in the language translations from the "boss"... ( In Lithuanian.....  "go to the bbc,.. see Chris Evans riding  bike - steal him ....we demand ransom from Lithuannia)....

mis translate the "him" for "it" ...

or was it a publicity stunt  ? ?  Undecided

My granddad, to the amusement of us kids, used to say he was going to watch the wireless.  Technically he was correct of course, but we were more used to referring to it as the TV.
