What with politics and Icelandic ash, I don't think many people will notice, or care.
Except the UK-based holiday industry.  Cool

After the previous strikes I doubt many have taken that risk.

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

This airline isn't going to be around in its present form for much longer if some heads aren't banged together.  It's a very competitive industry especially after the recent United/Continental merger.  Neither side seem to want to compromise.

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

seems a good way to make sure everyone loses their jobs.  imagine if that ryanair bloke took them over - he'd make them buy their own uniforms and bring a packed lunch.

At least Ryanair is a profitable airline that BA must look at in envy Undecided

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

A friend of mine's daughter is senior cabin staff with a part of BA (i.e. not at Thiefrow) that has and will work normally.
She and her colleagues are pretty disparaging of the strikers in so many ways.  Lips are sealed

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

The strikers don't seem to be arguing about pay this time round.  Their argument is about staff levels on 747 aircraft and the cancellation of staff flying perks.

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

If they change the basis BA will have a serious go at challenging it in the courts until there's a new ballot.

Re: British Airways to Strike Again

As I understand it from LBC this morning a new ballot has already been called for by the union.
On 747s the minimum crewing is 12.  BA has been crewed at 16 and want to reduce this to 14.  Other airlines, many full service ones, already have 12-14  so there is no safety issue it would appear.  No other airline could be found that crew at 16 but that's not to say there isn't one.
On the issue of flying perks I think once other issues are resolved then this will be reinstated.  Time will tell.

I thought this affected only the staff who striked last time.
Yep, well it possible affects a business trip I had planned, had not booked yet though, so now going on a different airline.
But it does seem the staff are trying to bring this company to its knees which is very sad. Sad

Yes you're right as far as I know non striking staff still have this perk.  Guess this will make it easier to reinstate.
This dispute does seem to be a battle between BA who want to destroy the union and the union who want to bring the company down.  Maybe both sides need to stand back and maybe start fresh talks with different negotiators.

There has been a minor earthquake storm (underground moving lava - possible prelude to a surface eruption) in the Myrdalsjokull region
