Re: Brexit Revisited

@Luzern

Maybe a better question would is what do they consider themselves to be be?

Let's be honest, many immigrants do not fully embrace being British and certainly not to the first degree. Nice for your Mum to claim coming over with those pesky Normans (who were actually descendants of Scandinavians) but many just refuse to let it go.

Proud to be English and proud to be British, but for others I'm not so sure.

PS. I'm also an honorary Welshman, apparently. 😉

While others are speaking the truth rather than hiding behind them you mean?

Nationalism can be nasty, but none should be afraid of pointing out the obvious fearful of being labelled a latter day Nazi by knee jerk reactionaries.

Re: Brexit Revisited

I see the thread is falling back into standard kipper xenophobia again

Heres something relevant but lighter

Brexit 50p: Limited edition coins to be shredded and melted down after Boris Johnson misses 31 October deadline

Thats counting your chickens before they are bleached ...

😁

and who would have believed it

Corbyn displaying some real caustic wit and good delivery

Wonder who wrote it?

“Having illegally prorogued parliament for five weeks for his Queen’s Speech, he now abandons that Queen’s Speech,”

“He got his deal through on Second Reading, then abandoned it.”

“He promised us a Budget on 6 November, and then he abandoned that too!”

“He said he would never ask for an extension! He said he’d rather die in a ditch!”

Pause.

“Another. Broken. Promise.”

Although she was born in the UK she is of German parentage.

Gisela Stuart (former Labour MP) is German by birth and campaigned for Leave in the referendum.  I've never heard any negative comments about her based on her nationality of birth.

@Luzern, doesn't the Bible state that you are responsible for the sins of your forebears for seven generation?

Re: Brexit Revisited

I thought the "Well what did she expect" was more about Allen's and Vaz's decidedly dodgy shenanigans.

That they may have been born elsewhere and not have royal blood in their veins excuses nothing or justifies nothing.

The fact that they came from somewhere other than the UK was pointed out as an afterthought not a reason.

The criticism they are getting and deserve is because they are bad bad bad MP's and people.

Which leads to why do some MP's seem to be above the law?

@RobC

Really?

Well this Kipper as you call us married into an immigrant family. As for Farage, well my guess you'll ignore his situation and focus upon your own narrow view of the world.

Voted for Brexit? Xenophobe. Voted Bremain, loves teddy bears.

Sheesh.

So many stories. Can't be bothered to even do the quick search to find you contradicting yourself in this one.

I was happy to give you the benefit of the doubt, as I did ... until there (quite quickly) no longer was any.

To slightly paraphrase:

“I'm not upset that you lied, its just that from now on I can't believe you.”

Coke snorting, porcine head abusing, unlawfully proroguing, Parliament and public misleading, bit of US fluff UK development money channelling Etonians ?

(Not that I'm excusing Vaz in any way)

and of course regarding the wails of 'turncoats' etc we see here ... I'll quote a REAL true blue Tory:

“My Rt Hon Friend the Prime Minister, the leader of the House [Rees-Mogg] and other members of the cabinet whose serial disloyalty has been such an inspiration to so many of us"…

@Minivanman And what about Brits, who emigrate and speak English ever louder than they would back home to make then furriners understand, and still want their warm beer and fish'n chips?

You honorary Welshman, your're sure  you heard right? Ornery sounds much the same. Cheesy

Re: Brexit Revisited

Maybe as were now heading to an election it would be a good time to pause this thread and return when parliament reconvenes as nothing will change with Brexit until then! It will also give our own Freddie Kruger (robc) time to collect all the lies spouted by the brexiteer over the the election and hit us with pages of them on Friday the 13th 🤣

@Jonpe I could not find anything  from the Bible on 7 generations, but native americans do have something rather like it.

Four generations does appear in connection with the Israelites  worshipping false gods.

"I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children to the third
 and fourth generations" (Exod. 20:5)

But later Ezekiel latches on to personal responsibility. Understanding of God had developed.

Ezekiel 18:19-20

“Yet you say, ‘Why should not the son suffer for the iniquity of the father?’
When the son has done what is just and right, and has been careful to observe
all my statutes, he shall surely live. The soul who sins shall die. The son
shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for
the iniquity of the son.
The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the
wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.
