Bottle opening...

Well I've been grafting on the car today and naturally had to come in and get a glass of my favourite fizz: 7up. Luckily there was an unopened bottle in the fridge!
Now i never thought of this before but i am right handed yet when i open a bottle of fizz i hold it with my right hand and open the bottle top with my left!
So.. i'm curious.. what-handed are you and how do you open yours?
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Bottle opening...

About the only thing I can think of that I do left-handed is holding the phone when making a call?

Even just picturing in my mind pulling the ring-pull with my left hand feels wrong Cheesy

Re: Bottle opening...

Right handed.....hold bottle with right hand (as that's the hand I will pour it with) and top off with left hand.

Re: Bottle opening...

I`m right handed for writing, and most other stuff... never really thought about opening bottles... but I suppose it is the same as Strat... hold the bottle with the right hand, as that is the pouring hand.... sort of ergonomically " makes sense"... Cheesy
Certainly that is the way I open a milk bottle..... !.

Re: Bottle opening...

I'm right handed for writing, but I box southpaw, use a mouse left handed a fork right handed, open a bottle with left and pour with the right.

Re: Bottle opening...

My father was ambidextrous but it doesn't appear to be hereditary.
When I see someone writing with their left hand I can't hold back the thought "how do they do that" even though it's perfectly natural to them.

Ambidextrous. e.g. Pour kettle with left hand, pour coffee with right hand. Drink with left hand, Iron with left hand, hold phone with left hand. I am supposed to be right handed.

Re: Bottle opening...

With 2 litre soft drinks bottles, straight out of the fridge, I often find it easier when first opening from new, to hold the cap with right hand, and actually twist the Bottle with left hand !
And for really stiff caps, especially when just woken up in the night, when my grip is weakest, I have a handy gripper built into a pair of scissors, in a knife block adjacent to the Fridge.
Larger glass containers, cooking sauces etc, with vacuum seals, it's either the back end of a teaspoon to release the vacuum, or a handy jar opener which gives extra leverage.
However, one really difficult one, I had to resort to a spring loaded centre punch on the metal cap !
Having wrapped the jar in a tea towel, just in case..
Being right handed, phones are held left handed, so that I can write with the right hand if needs be.

You use a pair of scissors in the night for your stiff cap because you have a weak grip?  Shocked

Re: Bottle opening...

Only thing I do that is left handed is wearing a watch as a right hander.  I never found a watch on my left wrist comfortable, so its on my right.

Re: Bottle opening...

Right handed. Hold bottle in middle to little fingers and open with index finger and thumb.
Well I'm not going to take both hands off the wheel when I open it!
