Bothies

I Have walked in Swindale a few times and seen Mosedale cottage from a distance but never considered going several miles out of my way to look at what I thought was a private cottage.

Yesterdays walk took me  past the place but rather than a private cottage it was a bothy.

I guess it must be one of the best ones in England, it's maintained by,

www.mountainbothies.org.uk   which also includes a map of locations of other bothies.

Without meaning to be lazy (I iicould google it but i've had a hell of a day) what is a bothy?

A shelter

In Scotland it was a farm labourer's cottage but it has been gentrified throughout the UK to mean a pleasant shelter for walkers or climbers.
