Boris Island

Some pics of it here in the following link:
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/new-london-airport--boris-island-plans-britannia-thames-estuary-sheppey-hea...
Quite impressive I think! I like the roundish shape they've shown too which I think looks cool.
£47bn and 200k jobs. Hmm, I might apply myself..  Wink

Re: Boris Island

Of course.... the transport infrastructure would also negate the use of private cars and taxi`s polluting the atmosphere.... all passengers would be provided with a high speed tube link transport system to the major railway stations.... ( not just one, but all... )
A roadway would need to be built for the construction equipment. and this could be used as a "service vehicle only" route into and out of the airport.

Re: Boris Island

I really can't see this taking off Wink
I think the outcome will be a further runway at Heathrow.  This also seems the most logical answer.

A very good point!
Just one more reason for us to build this:

It floats, it's big enough to handle airliners and it would look just right anchored off london  Cheesy
We could call it Boris's floaty island  Wink

Re: Boris Island

The designers are the samr people who designed the new airport in Hong Kong so I'm sure they will be aware of sea levels Roll eyes
If the airport was moved there would also be another problem to consider and that is around 80,000 jobs that will be lost at Heathrow.  it is estimated that most of these people would not relocate elsewhere.

Re: Boris Island

I wasn't exactly thinking of tidal changes......more long term than that, something a little less predictable Sad

They do have the SS Richard Montgomery "moored" close to the site.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
