Bond is back...

...and he's brilliant.
Just got back from the first public showing of Spectre at the Odeon Leceister Square (as I have done since For Your Eyes Only in 1981).
Great atmosphere and an enjoyable outing with 007 - again. No spoilers but the film was brimming with action and humour throughout. Not sure it is as good as Skyfall, though Undecided
Definitely worth a view if you're a bond fan Smiley

Re: Bond is back...

Skyfall was utter rubbish! What are you on about Mav?
You're on a forum powered by technology.. using a gadget (PC, tablet, phone etc) and you think the first bond film without gadgets is good? Are you mad?
A gun that only works for bond and a radio beacon.... Wow... i'm so impressed James Bond producers.. you did a fab job. Ok, the plot was quite good but it lacked the frigging gadgets.
Bond is not Bond without GADGETS. It's as simple as that. Skyfall had some stupid little computer nerd... who apparently wrote some super complex algorithm that the bad guy managed to use against him... makes MI6 look stupid.
So Bond producers, please bring back the ****ing gadgets. Bond was always about the babes, the cars, the stunts and the gadgets. Without the gadgets it just isn't Bond.

Re: Bond is back...

It was utterly amazing! Was definitely right up there with Skyfall, definitely worth a trip to the cinema to see.

I think the gadget thingy was over by the time of the invisible car in one of my least favourites 'Die Another Day'.
Since the reboot in 2006 gadgets haven't played a significant part and, in my opinion, for the better with Casino Royale, Skyfall and Spectre outdoing the Brosnan years.

Agreed.
I also hope Sam Mendez is at the helm once more for Bond 25.

I'd say the invisible car was the downfall of the bond gadgets if i'm honest. It was just stupid and so far fetched that it made the whole bond plot look stupid.
The gadgets have always been a significant part of all the bond films and should be brought back. Without them any bond film is just the same as any other action film only with a longer history.
That said i've never liked the current fella that plays bond.. from my POV he just seems to have killed it. It may be coincidence but he has the role at the same time the gadgets have vanished. and that has made me loose interest. I don't doubt his acting abilities - he is very good but i just think they have made too many changes.
I hope Liam Neeson is offered another shot at being Bond...he turned it down years ago to keep his wife happy but i would hope if he was given another chance he would take it.

Re: Bond is back...

Liam Neeson is 63 and would be at least 65 by the time the next Bond is filmed so I think would be too old to play the part.
I agree that the gadgets are part of the Bond franchise but the films became more about the gadgets than the plot.
I have to disagree about Daniel Graig. I think he's done a sterling job as Bond and hope he will do one more before he, too, gets too old - remember Roger Moore in A View To A Kill?

Re: Bond is back...

Liam Neeson is still pumping out plenty of other action films. Even if he only did the one film I would be happy!
I don't fault Daniels acting, I just don't like how so much of the Bond character and style has changed since he was brought into the role.

I'm sure in the first half dozen novels Bonds gun was a  Beretta, he didn't receive the PPK until Dr No.

Re: Bond is back...

Apart from being made by another company and a different model, is there meant to be something special about the PPK or something?
(See I wouldn't know.. what with us being anti-gun / sensible over here unlike the yankees lol)

My dad used to have one (with blanks though), damned thing was so powerful if you don't lean forward as you fire it, you WILL get pushed over... Shocked
