Blimey O'Reilly

Blimey O'Reilly, I must have had my Kindle for nearly five years now and I have never before noticed that there was a speech-to-text facility and one that is activated by tapping the microphone symbol on the keyboard display.

Am I daft of what? Crazy2

It was only earlier when tapping away and when I half asked the Mrs if she "was going for a quick shower" when lo and behold that sentence appeared in the text! I don't mind a laugh but that was spooky having not seen it before.

Is there any way of disabling it.... other that not tapping it by mistake?

Nothing I can find on settings so far, and a google search only directs me to turning off the text-to-speech facility and not the speech-to-text one

Paranoia, me? Roll_eyes

Re: Blimey O'Reilly

All your speech has been collected and analysed by Amazon over the internet.

That microphone is permanently live.

You could try putting a piece of tape over the miniature microphone.

Might be worth checking for the presence of a camera?

Re: Blimey O'Reilly

Well that being the case (and I don't doubt that it is) then the estimated five billion smart phone users world wide are already living in a self imposed Orwellian 1983 nightmare - and that's just for starters.
