Black Friday

Is it over yet, is it safe to come out now, and did I miss anything?

I know where I am, I've been lost here before.

Re: Black Friday

Things used to be so much simpler with January clearance sales and the odd closing down sale.

One of my favourites as a kid used to be the November 6th firework sale where you could find a few local shops selling at half price or less.

Re: Black Friday

There may be some genuine bargains but most of it is just a con.

Amazes me at some of the junk people buy no wonder so many are in debt.

How much of this stuff do people really need or is it more like, " This is a bargain, I don't need it but better get it at this price in case I might need it"

Re: Black Friday

To use a well worn description, it's all about 'wants' and 'needs'

Separate and consider those and more often than not we'll decline to buy. Bright and cheery telly adverts serve only to confuse and combine the two and boy oh boy, don't we just lap it all up!

Been there, done that..... and 'bought the t-shirt' I never wanted or needed in the first place. Crazy2

Re: Black Friday

I'm in the market for a 4k TV and probably could have grabbed one in the 'Black Friday sales'.

But that is not the way I shop for things like that unlike some I see.

I have a specification in mind and like to take my time.

Re: Black Friday

I have a simple rule - if I need it, find the best price, Black Friday or not, and buy it -if I don't need it, don't buy it.

Re: Black Friday

To be honest  that was the one and only thing I looked out for..... and never saw.

As for 'smart' TV's are a bit of a con I reckon - all I did was plug in a chrome cast thingy and hey presto one smart TV.

Not quite the same I know, but at those prices who gives a flying....... Wink

Currys and Amazon were/are selling some 4k TVs under the Black Friday banner...or Black Tag.

But I'm not biting.

I saw halfords flaunting one of their socket sets for £135 today. Weird thing is that most of the year its on sale at £99 marked down from £199 so they've actually put it up £36 to cash in on the black week which is rather pathetic.

Halfords are a good bunch for general stuff but you have to keep an eye on their tool prices so you don't get caught out as they're quite happy to try and con their customers.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Black Friday

Now me, I'd be tweeting away and holding them to account.

Disgraceful.

There's a reason (well, multiple reasons!!) people refer to them as Halfrauds... Funny

Re: Black Friday

I came across this site which seems useful for looking up current & historical prices on Amazon...

I must have been really bad in a previous life as this was my 3rd ISP in a row that used lithium.
Now you're stuck with me because my new ISP doesn't run a forum Cheesy

Re: Black Friday

I added a spam filter to my email. Any email with either "Black Friday" or "Thanksgiving" in the subject line is automatically deleted.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
