Best insect repellent?

At the moment I'm trying Avon's Skin so Soft. It seems to keep mozzies and horse flies at bay. Any other suggestions?

Re: Best insect repellent?

Try Boots Repel insect repellant.
I  suspect that the Avon product is worse than useless - probably just a perfume.
When In South Africa I use Boots Repel Tropical Strength - the mossies don't bother me!

Should you get bitten I can recommend 'After Bite' from Wilkinsons!
Takes the itchiness out in less than 5 minutes.

Re: Best insect repellent?

I will be putting some of these ideas to the test as I seem to be a magnet for biting insects this year..
Pity there is nothing to keep ticks at bay as they can be more dangerous than most of the other insects or bugs

Long sleeved shirts and long trousers. Light colour clothing help make the ticks more obvious. After outdoor activity take a shower and have your partner check you out for bugs .... Lips are sealed
I'll be trying NedLudd's advice. A couple of days ago I was unloading stuff to work in the orchard (ex-field with trees around) when I found a horse fly munching on my hand. The fly was removed from the gene pool. I'd forgotten to use insect repellent!

Re: Best insect repellent?

Crafty little beggars some of the ticks. They climb to the tip of a plant/grass stem and wait there front legs extended to hook into a passing animal/human. Keep out of the long grass.
