Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

Why do folk keep referring to Internet Explorer as "popular"?
I don't believe that most people use it by choosing it rather than a different browser.
Is it not like saying that the common cold is popular?
Or that rainy days are popular because they happen a lot?

Or like BA saying they were the world's favourite airline because more people use it than any other airline. Hence the M25 being the worlds favourite motorway!

According to the news this morning it's now Ryanair!
And of course we all love our favourite telephony switching and wholesale broadband carrier.  Wink

Re: Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

Apropos - this arrived in my inbox this morning -
A guy is sitting in the bar in departures at a busy airport. A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him. He decides because she's got a uniform on, she's probably an off-duty flight attendant.
So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly. He leans across to her and says the Delta Airlines motto 'We love to fly and it shows'.
The woman looks at him blankly. He sits back and thinks up another line.

He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto 'Winning the hearts of the world'.
Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.
Undeterred, he tries again, this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto 'Going beyond expectations'.
The woman looks at him sternly and says 'What the **** do you want?'

'Ah!' he says, sitting back with a smile on his face.

'Ryanair'.

Very funny and so true.
Would also work if the punch line was US Airways

Re: Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

I use USAir regularly into Charlotte and Tampa and find them a good airline.  They are also very good on price, particularly my flight from Gatwick last month which was free Wink Wink

Re: Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

When I flew a lot, both intercontinental and Europe and domestic, I often used BA, including some the times when they were very unpopular in some circles - but I never had any cause for serious complaint.
I used to use cheaper airlines and had poor service, and going back to BA was nearly always a pleasure - they often used to bend over backwards to help - put you on another flight at no charge if your incomng ( non BA ) feed to LHR was late.
I know some people will disagree - and those affected by the T5 fiasco have good grounds for complaint - but I can only report as I found persoanally.

Re: Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

@Artmo
I also use US Airways regularly. I use the direct flight from Manchester to Philadelphia which is very convenient.
I agree they are good on price, usually the cheapest. However they do have a bad reputation for late and cancelled flights. The in flight food is disgusting, I usually take my own.
The flight attendants are terrible, even for Americans. They are rude, lazy and could not care less about the passengers.
My airlines of preference are, Air France, KLM and Emirates

And on that note.. I shall be moving this to General Chit chat as this thread doesn't really constitute a rant or a rave...

Re: Being common does not make Internet Explorer popular

So, if I post a rant and several off-topic replies are added, it doesn't count as a rant any more?
