Bee keeping

I find Bee keeping very relaxing, it is actually quite an involved process. In the summer you have to visit the hives at least weekly to check on the health of the hive. You may wish to induce a swarm to split the brood or you may wish to prevent a swarm by removing queens and the factors causing a swarm.

Sometimes around the hives you get local kids who are absolute pests, I've found totally ignoring them is the best cause of action. They are only trying to attract attention to themselves. Sometimes, if they are genuinely curious, I'll explain what's going on, but if they're intent on causing trouble ignoring them usually causes them to go away and find some place else to pester.

Edit: I forgot to mention, hives are essentially two chambers. One for the brood and one for the honey. A precise control gap between the two chambers allows the worker bees access to the honey comb while preventing the queens and drones from intruding into the honeycomb and ruining the organisation.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Bee keeping

I love honey and would love to keep my own hive but I don't think may garden is big enough, I'd be able to make mead from my own honey and drink it out of a horn.

I have simple dreams Smiley

Re: Bee keeping

My friend at works dad is into it.

He bought some home made honey into work and it went down well.

So well one woman kept asking when she could have some more.
