Be healthy have an egg for breakfast - or a Hardee's monster thick burger

A researcher at Western University in London said he's found more evidence pointing to the harmful effects of egg yolks.
He claims the cholesterol found in the yolk is almost as dangerous as smoking.
Dr. David Spence says Canadians are being duped by what he calls "propaganda" from the egg industry.
His most recent study of more than 1,200 people found egg consumption accelerates atherosclerosis or plaque build up on arteries.
He said the culprit is the cholesterol found in the yolk, which is 237 mgs in a jumbo egg.
"It's more than the cholesterol in a Hardee's monster thick burger which is two-thirds of a pound of beef, three slices of cheese and four slices of bacon," said Spence.

Western University? Never even heard of the place, let alone it's reputation for scientific quality!

A gut buster with two extra fried eggs on top. Washed down with a pint of gold top. Lovely.
Next week the clamor will be back to legalising drugs and how much more healthy that will be for us all.
In the end it's all a question of degree. And some researchers are clearly missing that along with the right paper versions.

The "science" looks a bit vague.
"Dr David Spence revealed eating the yolk of an egg is about two-thirds as bad as smoking"
Would that be compared to one fag a week or a forty a day habit?

Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Without seeing the actual research it is hard to assess the validity of the report. If there is a correlation between egg yolk eating and artery plaque levels does that prove causation? e.g. Did the people having 2 eggs a day for breakfast also have sausage and bacon with them?
The amount of cholesterol in foods has previously been shown to have less impact on the level of cholesterol in the subjects' blood than the amount of saturated fat eaten.

How many people eat egg yolks without the white? So, apart from having most of the cholesterol, why is it assumed that it is the yolk of the egg that is causing a problem?

In a statement, the American Egg Board said that the findings come from "an observational study that can only suggest potential relationships, not determine actual cause-and-effect conclusions."
The Egg Board also noted in the statement that "study subjects with higher egg intakes tended to also be heavy smokers, and only a small percentage of the population consumed more than five eggs per week, meaning that the conclusions were based on a small number of subjects."
Dr. Gregg Fonarow, a spokesman for the American Heart Association and professor of cardiology at the University of California, Los Angeles, said the evidence for and against egg yolk consumption has see-sawed for decades.

Re: Be healthy have an egg for breakfast - or a Hardee's monster thick burger

Remember the adverts years ago.............. Go to work on an egg, years later we had Edwina Curry tell us the majority of eggs were infected with a bacteria, now every few months we get alternative advice about the level of Cholesterol in eggs and if they are good for you or not.
The reality is that 80% of cholesterol is made by your body and the amount of cholesterol in an egg is minimal.
This might make a difference if your levels are above normal but is not significant for people with cholesterol levels at or below the normal level, indeed some reports have indicated there is no proof that high levels of cholesterol cause specific problems but research funded by drug companies claim there is a link and we should all be taking a combined pill that contains aspirin, along with a drug to lower blood pressure and one to lower cholesterol levels.
