Balance.

Serious question.
If you stand on one leg unaided and close your eyes should you be able to keep your balance ?
I am sure years ago I could do this for several minutes no problem but now find I can only achieve it for a few seconds.
Warning : I Accept no responsibility for any injuries caused when trying this out.

About 5 or 6 seconds in my case, much longer with eyes open......which seems to agree with this chart. (just turned 65)
What's your balance-based RealAge?
Balance Time Balance-Based RealAge
4 seconds 70 years
5 seconds 65 years
7 seconds 60 years
8 seconds 55 years
9 seconds 50 years
12 seconds 45 years
16 seconds 40 years
22 seconds 30-35 years
28 seconds 25-30 year

Re: Balance.

Around 10 seconds which is about right according to your chart, Strat.
So strange that with eyes open I can keep balance for so much longer. I suppose it may have something to do with the brain being able find a reference point to maintain a steady position.
I find that my loss of balance started within my foot rather than upper body or legs. Kept trying to grip the flloor with my toes Angry

My daughter can spread her toes like other people spread their fingers so she should be good at this.

Re: Balance.

SWMBO tried it...
It was like watching an aeroplane coming into land in high wind with her arms outstretched Grin Grin
She lasted about 8 seconds which is about right for someone 25 years older than her  Tongue

Re: Balance.

I find if I can get past 10 seconds with concentration it starts to get easier Undecided
I do wonder why the chart only goes up to 70. Undecided

Re: Balance.

Hope none of the PN staff were trying this as it could take some explaining why you were stood on one leg with your eyes shut when the boss came around ! Wink

Re: Balance.

I know someone hasn't got a leg to stand on, he's Legless and off his head after getting plastered

PS: I managed 12 seconds.
