I have tried baking in the past, i must admit i am pretty awful, although i can bake a banana cake , and flapjack ( if that counts as baking)
I really enjoy watching the The Great British Bake Off , and Dragons Den, i think they are the best two shows on TV at the moment.

I'd post a link but the language would be far more fruity than her cake.
Sadly cakes are cheaper to buy than make but I used to love doing tarts with various fillings and mince pies.
Now you've mentioned it I might do some this week after shopping

Scale of economies though - the more things you bake, the cheaper it is (but you need to buy bulk - like Costco style). Flour is 50%+ cheaper than supermarkets if you buy a big 16 or 25kg sack.
I do a heck of a lot of baking, in fact too much baking. The downside is you've always got lots to eat and it's not usually the healthiest.

There's an increasing number of artisan bakeries that have started up and the majority of them do courses. Here are some of the well known ones - http://www.shipton-mill.com/the-mill/our-friends/baking-and-cookery-schools £50-100 for an evening's course is well worth it - it's entertaining and you learn something new.

My favourite was a rich fruit cake. Sometimes even covering with marzipan and icing. Another favourite was/is pineapple upside cake?
I don't cook/bake these days and have passed my recipes to SWMBO who actually produces better results than I did.
