Re: BT Porn filter turned on

It isn't, Show me how false positives have been proven to be fixed in any current software out there presently.

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

there fixed manually, as in some ISP employee (or sub sub sub contractor) drags the url (or batch of url's) from the block to the allow list, it takes time its annoying for a day or two, it gets remedied, faster if people flag up the "mistake" why would it need to be a software only solution, were not asking ISP's to replace employees with Virtual intelligence programming to have the final say on anything, we want people (who are fallible) to have the final say, talktalk has already done this as have other isp's, which proves that whilst not always a fast solution it does work perfectly well

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

The fast majority of False positives are NEVER rectified as they "loosely" fit the criteria of the filter, I somehow doubt BT will employ hundreds of people to create whitelists of URLs, think about it, every report means someone has to go through that entire website to make sure that not one single bit should not be filtered.
Also why not make it opt in, when someone signs up they ask "do you want this filter" if they say no/yes they get what they want, WHY should people be persecuted in to having to turn it off, I don't care but I am sure many will be embarrassed going to their ISP and saying "can you please turn off this filter"
Not all of them will, and I have not seen it has to, have a web log in to activate and deactivated. Also, some of the topics, WHY filter them, why filter esoteric media, why filter things in relation to Health, Depression, Suicide,  Why filter WEB forums..

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

perhaps because pree teens shouldn't be going to such sites
why do you think I have the answers as to why various categories should or shouldn't be filtered out ?
esoteric media is all religious media (because the various religions all want each others content blocked) it wont work because majority of schools fall into that category (being as most of them are based on one religion or another),
TalkTalk have successfully managed to change there filtering system from blocking access to some websites to allowing them, the filter program clearly is too aggressive though s far from blocking a single unsavoury URL it blocked all URL's which were related to the single dodgy page on a server...
its not going to be  a perfect system (people would be naïve to think it would be) but its been promised to get better with age, currently the various ISP's are all using the same data provider(s) upon which to base their and all using proprietary filtering algorithms (which sounds daft, but commercialism so often is) so no two isp's are likely to be the same in there efforts.....BT has indicated it plans ot bow ot various pressure groups as part of its strategy (something that is just plain nonsense)
asking new customers would they like to opt out should be a place to start but knowing BT that wont happen and it will be something the determined customer will require to do via the webpage .......

there will undoubtedly be teething troubles, if collaboration between search engines and ISP's things might get to a good point in very short order but unless money changes hands that's probably not going to happen, a shame because primarily two companies have created this problem and are the only two doing nothing to try and fix it

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

nah I'm hedging my bets that plusnet will provide a much better system,
AOL(hell) has always provided a stupid filter, its not even a decent thing (theres far better options available for desktop solutions) hell the Microsoft family safety filter is better than that junk, and still utterly useless when it comes to mobile devices (I still don't understand why schools are so hell bent on paying over the top for I-junk when the surface stuff is cheaper and more useful (pro as opposed to RT that is) its also far simpler to admin because Microsoft has been actively heading up internet safety solutions for over a decade (although it was utterly gash to begin with before bing actually indexed the majority of the internet) so the apps on surface/wp don't bypass local settings by default..........

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

There's inevitably a cost to providing a filtered broadband service. Can I have mine "raw" at a reduced price?  I'll handle my own filtering thank you.

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

I'd imagine the cost per user for BT Retail would be very small.
Do you want a discount for not using the Plusnet firewall too?  Tongue

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

Tell me the costs and I'll make a decision. Wink
The point is the "Establishment" impose these constraints without consultation then expect people to pick up the cost. I most definitely think those demanding the controls should be the ones who pay for the extra work. It doesn't matter if it is a "very small" cost per user, the additional work should be quantified and people should be given the chance to refuse the cost if they don't want the "service".  What has happened is that regulations will have been imposed without the process of debate and law making by parliament. This is how liberty is chipped away.

I've always kept the "free" Plusnet spam and content filtering and firewall off.
Can I have a rebate or a discount please?

For those worried about the advertising side of things etc,
Why not install a free advert blocker link Adblock Plus  which caters for all the major browsers
It even saves on data usage whilst using a dongle
