Re: BT Porn filter turned on

open the browser password manager and delete everything for @bt.com...
of course this means it will also delete your login info for the accounts page, the other answer is to change users between people so nobody shares your logon if you share your pc with kids that way they don't get to use your pre input passwords Smiley
personally I like the filtering on an opt out basis,  with teenagers in the house who are increasingly more tech savy than there parents its been becoming harder and harder to net nanny them, only last week I found they were yet again watching filth having found a new way round the screening filters .......
roll on the day when all isp's provide this by default since its clear only isp's can do so, be even better when they can also block the filth from streaming on every webpage, don't get me wrong I'm not a prude (far from it) but theres a time and a place for that sort of thing and bombarding browsers all day and night isn't one of them it should be a separate part of the internet that you require special access to get into so that the young minds are protected form things like rape porn (which is the sort of thing they like ot watch) and then re-enact......
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

As ever with these filters, not only is the scope wider than orignally claimed,  there's also the collateral damage...
[quote=http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/12/17/bt_parental_controls_will_block_proxies_and_anonymiser_sites/]BT's new network-level nudie no-no filter system will block access to sites promoting proxies and anonymisers
Quote
Late last week the Telegraph published a report claiming that the filters were preventing children from viewing educational pages on sexual health and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) matters - including, for some, pages served by the National Health Service (NHS) specifically to address childrens' questions surrounding puberty, alcohol abuse and abstinence support.

[Moderator's note by Jim (Oldjim)  If you are going to quote do it accurately and don't slip in offensive words - the offensive word which isn't in the original article has been corrected to the correct acronym definition.]
Edit: That second quote was from here, but that didn't seem important at the time. See Also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

Absolutely Idiotic idea 😕
It's the parents job to monitor their kids not the government. My kids (one of which just got his own tablet for Christmas by my in laws) will have his internet usage monitored by myself and my wife, as it is our JOB to do,
Anyone who seriously considers this a good thing to protect their children is too bloody bone idle to do their job.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the same views on parenting as you do.

Why the assumption that I have children under 18?  Crazy

I don't think anyone accused you of that @vilefox...  Wink
The fact that the filter can be configured to some extent is good.
Some of us 'responsible adults' would be quite happy having unpleasant stuff on the internet blocked anyway.

I note that the quoted source also uses the incorrect and offensive definition for LBGTQ which wasn't in the article it quotes.
I am surprised that it did it

Except in an Orwellian society you'd not be allowed to configure it nor switch it off.

not true at all, its actually impossible to block things from tablets without blocking everything, its also not possible to block things anymore from Google that are inappropriate because they changed there system to subvert all current filtering options, facebook is another prime example of unblockable content, because either you block all apps or you cant block any of them.
nothing to do with being lazy more to do with a-hole companies making things that directly prevent the ability to be a good parent when they are fully aware of the implications and instead claim " not our problem if you don't like it don't give your kids access! this from a company that removed child accounts (no advertising allowed and only limited contact groups)
I've invested several months of my life trying to find ways of doing things but sadly the options are no longer available (gone are the days of being able to setup properly controlled accounts) and once a child has seen something they cant un-see it no matter if you only allow them to use there device whilst your looking over there shoulder, the damage is already done by some inappropriate advertising (which cant be blocked from app's)
something I suspect a lot of people don't have the first clue about because they either are ignorant of how these things work or haven't yet had the displeasure of being forced into allowing there kids to use them (mine got issued I-pads at school and they don't even bother with any restrictions other than facebook/ twitter during class time)

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

Presumably BT insist that everyone pays for a foreign VPN?

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

Thats funny, My Oldest just got an Tablet and the first thing I did was to install and manage parental content. Basically when he turns it on he can only access content or Apps that I have allowed him too, to access the main tablet a password (of my choosing) must be input to access the app store etc,
I download any games/apps he wants and then add them to his allowed list.

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

This isn't going to block the adverts showing celebrities such as Miley Cyrus or whomever the current "corrupting" boogeyman/woman is. I don't recall getting popups for porn sites on any regular, mainstream, clean website.
So if ones children are encountering such popups, that would suggest that they were looking at things they shouldn't have been in the first place.
Which comes back to parents settings rules.

Re: BT Porn filter turned on

Lucky there isn't a porn/language filter on the TV as half the time it would either be silent or blank ! Wink

which is fine if you bought it but not possible when its a device issued to them by their school
