BBC and Met Office split.

It seems that the met Office has lost it's contract to provide weather services to the BBC ending a long and happy partnership.
I presume this means new weather presenting faces on the Beeb.

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

According to the Sunday Times the existing presenters will transfer to a new company. I don't know how they know this when they haven't decided who will get the contract
No worries though about Carol Kirkwood. She's a BBC employee Smiley Smiley

The staff will be tupee'd over automatically - thats the way it works. It's the management that get flushed out. Well.. thats normally what happens anyway.
It's odd though that just recently the BBC were advertising for a non-qualified and non-experienced weather person which made the national press... if they're then going to scrap the entire relationship with the MET. Seems a bit weird..

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

Is that the case where a company loses a contract rather than the company itself selling a part to another company

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

As i understood it, it's when a company looses a contract to another.

Thanks - that appears to be the case although I am sure there must be restriction or safeguards http://www.acas.org.uk/tupe

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

This decision of the BBC has the smell of a poorly disguised attempt to show the Government how important the upper echelons of BBC management are to the country. "Look we can damage the Met Office..."  They really are throwing their toys out of the pram over potential restrictions of the TV Licence Fees.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

If the BBC signs up with a new weather provider we may get some better weather?

Re: BBC and Met Office split.

Apparently their graphics are already supplied by an outside company.
The Met Office receives £32M a year from commercial bodies and the largest slice of this is thought to be from the BBC.
The new supplier could be a Dutch or New Zealand company.

I use them as a cross-check and find the BBC currently MUCH more accurate for my location.
