BBC News Website

Does anyone like the new layout of the News website enforced on us by the BBC? As with previous designs it increases space while decreasing news content.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: BBC News Website

I'd love to see what benefits the change supposedly brings.
I'd like to think it's mainly back-end changes to make it easier for them to publish and maintain the site, rather than change for the sake of change. I don't see any worthwhile improvements in the front end. They're still using Flash for video.

Re: BBC News Website

I did not like the changes of the Plusnet site, when they "forced" it on us......  but... I have got used to it,... and live with it...
All websites "force" the viewer(s) to accept any changes, we just don`t have any say in it, even if it is the Beeb....

Re: BBC News Website

I'd being using the beta version for the last few weeks and have got used to it. Early the day they said they would be changing over I swapped back to using the normal URLs so I saw when the live site swapped. I did find I actually preferred the new site.
What are people finding it like on small screen devices (which is one of the main reasons for the change)?

Re: BBC News Website

As jelv states, it's been re-designed to make it more compatible with phones etc.
To the expense of Desktop viewing !!
Using Apple OSX, iMacs.
I've been changing various parameters in Firefox, my default browser, now got it to almost half a page, rather than the 1/4 page it was before.
But with the whole LHS & RHS missing !!
I have to scroll Left & Right to see those portions..
But, for some reason, Chrome displays the web pages as normal, albeit with the new font.
So for general BBC News browsing, I now use Chrome.

Re: BBC News Website

My old version of firefox/palemoon displays the same as your chrome pic.
Is the mixed up firefox page a symptom of the latest version or the mac operating system?

Re: BBC News Website

I'm with Shutter and Strat on this. It's different but not bad. Just a case of getting used to it. I have no problems viewing it on Firefox Smiley

Re: BBC News Website

I've no problems with it on the PC in either FF, Chrome, IE or Palemoon.
It displays well on my Galaxy S4 mini (540x960) and Acer tablet (1920x1080) in both portrait and landscape modes.
Yes, there is a lot of white space  on the PC but I think that's preferable to a cluttered page.

Re: BBC News Website

Works fine for me, I just don't like it because it looks like something from 20 years ago that a 5 year old could code today...

Re: BBC News Website

Hadn't noticed since I never visit news sites. That's what RSS is for.
