BBC News - Council cuts hits the homeless

Hi All
Just seen this:
Quote
Hostel supporting homeless for 30 years to close in January

A hostel in Oxford that has provided homeless support for 30 years is to close in the new year.
Lucy Faithfull House, which has 61 beds, will shut as part of Oxfordshire County Council's plans to reduce funding for homeless support by 38%.
Services at the centre will end on the 31 January.
The council said it was working on relocating all residents, but would not be offering a "like-for-like" service.
The new service, which was put out to tender, will commence from February 2016.

Re: BBC News - Council cuts hits the homeless

you have to wonder where all the Comic Relief (and other similar cash grab entities) money goes to.
of course, we know where it goes. the vast majority leave the country to help others.
maybe we should start forgetting about the others and keep all the money within the UK.
problem solved almost immediately.

That will never happen because of claims of discrimination.

Re: BBC News - Council cuts hits the homeless

how is it discriminatory?
if it is then surely collecting money for the blind is discriminatory against those who aren't blind.
is children in need discriminatory against those who aren't children?

Ok to put it another way if we were to do that we the UK would be accused of racism.

Being accused of something doesn't mean you are guilty of it.

Re: BBC News - Council cuts hits the homeless

who's doing the accusing though?
no-one as far as i can see.
as i said, do single policy charities get accused of being discriminatory against those that don't fall within its single policy? no they don't.
so, stop leaking all the charity money raised in the UK to those outside the UK and keep for those in the UK that need it.

People do it all the time.
Even when you say Eastern Europeans tend to drink and smoke more it gets you accused of racism.
Despite that this originally came from government circles.

Re: BBC News - Council cuts hits the homeless

that is racist though. that is suggesting that people from a particular region all have a particular trait.
it's like saying all jews are money grabbers - clearly not true.
can you show any evidence of claiming racism for suggesting that any charity money raised within the UK is kept for UK causes?

I wouldn't say so, the word 'tend' was used which would imply that its a well known trait but acknowledges they're not all like it. I could say northerners tend to talk with a northern accent. That doesn't mean they all do and it doesn't mean that i'm being racist. It's just one of those things that the average person not from that area would notice.
As for who's doing the accusing, Midnight Caller was just making a point - that you would be accused of it in this country because in this day and age there is always someone ready to jump up and down and shout racism at someone. No idea why.. it just seems to be the aggressors way of taking a poke at people these days.
Anyhow..
