BBC Look East are doing a survey

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12430744
Quote
BBC Look East is calling for people in the East of England to find out their home broadband speed, as part of the TV programme's week-long special.
It is estimated only 60% of households in the region have access to high speed broadband.
The results of the research will then be shown on BBC One during Look East's broadband week, which runs from 21 to 25 February 2011.

there are three badly marked links on this page, two to the survey,http://www.surveymapper.com/response.aspx?id=172 and
and one to a very dubious speed test so that you can fill the survey in http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8172065.stm  although I regularly get over 10M that link report from 3m to 7M
the interesting thing is where the viewers filling in the survey come from  http://www.surveymapper.com/mapView.aspx?id=172  if you zoom out the map you see the below with entries in Wales the midlands and Scotland

Re: BBC Look East are doing a survey

The survey is pretty crude because, as pointed out in one comment, using the first part of postcode covers a vast area.
I come under LU7 and that covers people like me at 3Km from exchange and people next door to it who could double my speeds.
My profile varies between 7.15Mb and 8.0Mb and that's more than adequate for my requirements, so much so that I'm ignoring the fact that my cabinet now has fibre.

Re: BBC Look East are doing a survey

@p_p I got 3.6Mbps, 4.0Mbps & 3.9Mbps.
Like you I'm part of Ofcom/Samknows trial and I average 6.5Mbps on current 7.15Mb profile.

A simple survey designed to provide a rough indication of broadband speeds across the east of England

Very rough. I got results varying between 2.4Mb/s and 6Mb/s on the BBC test Roll eyes

It works but I doubt the accuracy.

Re: BBC Look East are doing a survey

I enetered my in-laws for them as they don't have a computer.
They're in Peterborough and don't have broadband so I put the lowest band in (which includes zero)  Crazy
Though one of their neighbours has a totally open connection that our smartphones automatically latch on to!  Lips are sealed

Re: BBC Look East are doing a survey

@Steve M
Your connection to bbc.co.uk is working at .7 Mbps.
At this speed it would take you just over a minute to download a 4 minute song and about 60 minutes to download a half hour TV programme.

Actual speed according to speedtest.net is 1.5mbps download,  .4mbps upload
Last week it was running at around 2.25 mbps download .4mbps upload
What is curious, there is a local exchange (WiFi enabled for telecoms staff) that I can connect to (it is that close), that has FOC capacity, but my connection goes through an exchange 6 miles away.

Re: BBC Look East are doing a survey

Just watched Look East and it's the usual jump on the bandwagon that they do every so often.
